* Running A Business Without a License

Not only do the Open Air Drug Market Salesman run a unlicensed business out of this location in Rogers Park. From the looks of things, so does this buildings management. What we have here is a unmonitored, unsupervised, unmanned, unlicensed laundry-mat in the Acorn managed property at Greenleaf and Glenwood.

Upon checking with The City of Chicago Department of Business Affairs And Licensing interactive website, there is no such business that should be located at 7035 North Glenwood.

Ah, but wait. Look what a little campaign contribution to Joe Moore will do. Instant business without a license. Can anyone say, "Hint of possible influence"? Gotta wonder if they're paying their fair share of taxes on this alleged unlicensed business?

Still no response from the Alderman's office to whether he has looked into this or not. I emailed again today.

Does anyone know if there is a specific person on the alderman's staff assigned to respond to email from the public? Is it now Wayne Frazier? He sent this response to a commenter on the hellhole the other day and I was wondering if Moore had tapped him to do all public communication from now on:

Jeff, thanks for your e-mail and input, if you stop by Common Cup ask the owner how much Alderman Moore help them get started. When Common Cup announce they will have a grand opening the Alderman will give them as much attention as anyone else who opens a new business in the community.

Thanks,
Wayne Frazier
49th Ward

Maybe the laundry-mat needs to have a "grand opening".

I gotta question for you all, how closed are Joe's Democratic committeeman meetings, cause all of Joe's closest buddies(the 48th ward IVI cabana folks from Sheridan)and mostly Sandra Verhein(sp?)) who lives in the 48th ward (?) was pretty pissed off at the "no transparency of the committeemen" there and she wasn't able to be part of the committee, yet no one had heard of her before that date and yet she is tied to JoMo. Whats the deal here?

Why not check the whole hood for people working without building permits, business licenses of all sorts. WOW, you could become a hero for the city and the dept. of revenue. Even some of your best people may be doing this, not just the bad guys.

If it's unsupervised, why not go screw the doors shut? What are they going to do, call the police and complain that their unsupervised crack dealer hideout was secured?

unsupervised washing machines + a few bags of cement mix = no more laundry mat....well atleast it worked on Seinfeld:

KRAMER: Come on. What's the big deal? Just gonna put a little concrete in the washing machine.

JERRY: And what's gonna happen?

KRAMER: Well, it'll gonna mix up with the water, and then by the end of the cycle it'll be a solid block!

I saw an ad on Craigslist that said all these washers and dryers were free to anyone who came to disconnect them and carry them away.

I promise I didn't write the ad. It was the owners. Honest.

Dorothy: Sandra V blanketed the Edgewater neighborhood last week asking people to vote for her as interium 48th ward committeeman. Sandra of the DFA wanted to replace retiring Volini. And yes, she was pissed. Real pissed the Carole Ronan got in.

You would think that the friends of Joe would have been a little better organized if they wanted to pull off the committeeman's job for Sandra V. But hey, it's almost summer and the cabana is HOT.

Hey, in the 49th its business as usual, why shouldn't it be any different in the 48th? Oh, thats right its only "not transparent" when its the other guy doing the same action your guy can do without any critism. Yawn.

Putting flyers out 3 days before an issue and expecting people to suddenly jump on board for not very clear reasons probably ain't going to happen. Groan.

The 48th ward committee asked 4 times if anyone in the audience wanted to speak on her behalf and not one of her supporters raised their hand and finally someone raised their hand after the 4th time asked. I think SV wanted to melt into the floor at that point, damn I would have spoken about her, but heck I never heard of her before except one time, here when she ranted about Gordon.

You think you'll have the balls to introduce yourself to me at the Hollywood/Sheridan TIF meeting?

Aaaah, CRaig, will you be there, too?

It should be an interesting meeting.

Hey Craig, you won't miss me. I'll be the only pup in the room. Unless Sheli brings my little friend.

Chris, could you post the link to your site here - I would like to look at that calendar you made but can't remember the link.

Thank you for that. It's great.

You know, I've been reading this blog for quite some time and, for the most part, people use this to complain. WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS??? Don't expect the Alderman's Office to solve all problems. How many of you go out and pick up litter in your neighborhoods? Do you take measures to discourage crime? I don't agree with some of the things Joe Moore has done, but do you really think Craig Gernhardt is the answer? I've mete him several times and he's nothing but a loudmouth bum who does not listen to anyone else's ideas.
