* Loud Bangs in the Night
Last night, around 2:30AM, I was awakened by a half dozen bangs. Loud, rapid fire bangs. Like they came from a gun. The bangs came from the Morse and Glenwood area. I could tell where the sound came from by the echo's in the alley. I looked out the window towards Morse Avenue and saw a guy with a dark colored hoody running east on Morse. Finding this to be out of the ordinary, (okay, maybe not) I called 911. I turned on the police scanner and heard someone else had called 911 from the 1340 West Morse building too. I kept the scanner on to see if anyone would've been apprehended, but to no avail. The rat must have found a escape hole and got away. And crime is down.

That's very frightening, I'm sorry the police weren't able to catch the guy who was doing the shooting. Thanks for trying Craig.
Today is Amnesty Day May Day and a few others and there will be a HUGE march downtown. I posted some thoughts about it at my blog. You can find it by clicking on my name. It's at the bottom of my profile.
Interesting enough, paramedics were summoned late last night to 1361 W. Greenleaf and a loudly moaning person was taken away in an ambulance. Could this be related?
Speaking of crime, has anyone seen or heard anything from our great Alderman? Has he finally released his great plan to reduce crime, stop the drug dealing gang bangers and bring prosperity to us peasants?
No Tom, I doubt they are related. Nothing else was called on the scanner for Greenleaf during that time or soon thereafter.
Crime is never down anywhere, in my opinion. It might not be as bad in some areas, but it is never totally down. That's why it pays to be mindful of surroundings. Summer hasn't even gotten in here good yet, and people are already shooting.
Come on people, do you read the news? Carol Moseley Braun MUGGED in Hyde Park.(attacker had a knife) Robberies at gun point in Lincoln Park and the Gold Coast (AGAIN). It's called be ever present of your surroundings no matter WHERE you are. Bad things happen in good places also. We don't own the market on these events.
Oh yer just pissed because you don't get banged loudly in the night.
Unless, I see a gun or can feel comfort distinguishing the noise, why insist it is always gunshots. I saw a neighbor light some firecrackers in the alley a few days ago.
I took into consideration that the bangs may have been firecrackers. Firecrackers are illegal too.
When I hear anything that sounds like a gunshot, I prefer to err on the side of safety and figure that's just what it is, and get to cover.
Don't take chances.
I heard those shots and it jolted me up. I saw the police circling looking for the shooter, but I guess they never found him. It was and is scary, the first tiem i have heard shots live like that. Sometimes I find myself taking it for granted that this neighborhood is safer than it really is?
