* Neighbors Spot Deer in Rogers Park
Craig,
Thought this would make good fodder for the blog. This afternoon around 2:00 my wife was looking out our front window and noticed a deer across the street from our place on the 1500 block of West Fargo. She called 311 to connect to animal control and filed a report.
The deer was obviously quite scared and kept hopping from yard to yard as people came and went down the sidewalks.
At one point another deer joined in on the fun and they took up a brief residence in Leonard Dubkin Park on Ashland. This didn't last long as they were spooked by some people surrounding the park and they jumped the fence. My wife then called animal control AGAIN and she was told the report was filed and it was out of the dispatchers hands.
When I arrived home from work, they had made their way back down Fargo and they were across the street from Arbour Care. They had drawn a little crowd around them. I am guessing had it not been raining there would have been more. I went outside and took a few photos that are attached.
Around 6:30 some CPD squad cars pulled up and tried thier best to spook them back to the park. They now are back in the park with no sign of animal control a full 5 hours after our initial call.

That explains that!!! I saw the Animal Care and Control van on Fargo at 2:30 pm, while walking my client's dog Murphy. I didn't see the deer, but the Inspector from ACC was chatting with some residents. I stopped for a moment, but didn't ask what was going on. Assumed it might be a dog bite complaint.
I saw the ACC truck around that time. Those deer are slippery litttle buggers.
Hmmm. I wonder how we can blame Joe Moore for this one?
"Upon hearing that the ordinance banning the sale of foie gras may be recinded, I have advised the game wardens of Rogers Park to begin rounding up any beasts that might be endangered by throngs of gourmet cooks. Venison steaks are next on the list of banned foods," proclaimed Moore. "For the Korean and asian communities, be aware, dogs are next."
Wow, it took a lot longer for the sarcastic "blame Joe" post that I thought it would. Good thing I didn't post an over-under.
Deer are here because we, as humans, are not competent managers of nature. We killed the apex predators and did not fill the role ourselves and animal rights activists now interfere with our ability to correct the situation.
Before you start, Joe is not an animal rights activist, he was/is a politician looking for attention.
Deer have been in the neighborhood for several years now, although they don't usually come as far south as Fargo. They've been spotted most often NOH, especially in Calvary Cemetery. Friends on Birchwood have looked out in the morning to find deer grazing in their yards on many occasions.

oh no... do you think it was the deer mentioned?
:(
These two deer were in Dubkin park (Fargo & Ashland) last night (Tuesday) at about 11pm. They looked really scared. Were they removed at all? or... did they come back? Through 911, I eventually got transferred to the forestry division. They said they'd take care of it, but I did not wait around to see what happened. Oh deer, indeed.
Wow, if so, these are the last photos of the deer alive.
Those two deer started out Monday around Ridge/Hermitage. Animal Control will only come out for sick deer. They will eventually go back to Rosehill, where they came from. They are looking for food.
Yesterday I was talking to one of my neighbors and they mentioned that there was another deer that was cornered in the backyard of one of the condo buildings on Fargo. I wonder if these three reunited and made a run for it, only to meet their fate on the Drive?
If you wonder where I got the three from, the Sun Times mentions a third as well
