The tagging has been much worse than usual since about April, the whole length of the lakefront.

Many buildings in Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Uptown, and Edgewater have been tagged with immense "wild style" block letters in loud colors, including the beautiful brickwork of the Uptown Theatre Building, and many other buidings, especially those abbutting el tracks.

How can people keep up with this? It cost mucho $$ to have this crap removed from your walls, and no sooner have you got the stuff almost removed (for it always leaves a "ghost")than some other little retard throws more up. After repeated 'bombings' and removals, the wall looks horrid even though the owner has given removal his best shot. Yet the owner will get fined for leaving this crap up.

We are clearly being too indulgent to the little goons who do this, clearly. And, as much as I hate to be rough on parents, maybe we are going to have to start fining the parents- most of the kids who do this are under 18. If the kid is over 18, a big fine, with garnishment of any paycheck, plus MANY hours of community service doing the dregs of work. If under 18, detention and/or community service, with the parents getting hit.

Fines collected should be awarded to the property owner to reimburse same for expense involved in removing the "art".

As regards art, I'm all for it, but even stuff that's beautiful (which is rare)has no business being placed on someone's property without his permission.

And most of this crap is not art, it's the mental vomit of a bunch of little cretins who need more adult supervision, and a schedule of household chores to keep their itchy little mitts occupied.

Some graffiti is art, but I agree -- gang tagging doesn't qualify as that. I thought there was a law in Chicago that the parents would be held responsible for property damage that their rugrats do. The problem is, catching the perps in the act.

Since the last photo, the Latin Kings have tagged the same garage as well. I agree with boxing tomboy that graffitti can be art, but not when it's on a taxpayer's garage without their express permission. Then I call it desecration of private property, regardless of whether it's a gang tag or street art.
