* Small Steps in the Right Direction (Updated)
I'm not going to name names, because Joe Moore has a way of enacting revenge for those who help me. Still, I'm going to chance it just a bit and say thanks to 49th ward Streets and Sanitation for removing the old Red Streak Box, and that old bike that littered the Morse Avenue side of the EL. Most of all, I'd like to add the big 'hat tip' for the installation of a sturdy garbage can that you can't kick over at the Lunt Avenue side of the EL station. Now we're talking.
I hope everyone stops by and looks at the cool flowers growing in all four planters! And please, throw something in the newly installed garbage can too. It works real well.
BLOGNOTES #1: Things are looking better. But there still is much work to be done.
BLOGNOTES #2: No Special Service Area tax #24 money was used in any of these projects either.
Photo Update: A flower planter and a garbage can, side by side. The planter has flowers. The garbage can has garbage. Wow, what a concept.

I just got off the Lunt Side Station (6/29 - 4:45pm). I looked for it and it's not there. The last time I saw it was this morning.
It's on the west side of the station, right next to the flower planter.
The temporary garbage can on wheels I had by the newspaper boxes in the center of the station was removed once the strudy one was installed.
Just don't throw your household garbage in there and anger the trash detective please :oP
I've been living here for two years now. Transplanted from Uptown. I've been surprised of the lack of garbage cans in Rogers Park. I sometimes have to walk 3 blocks on Clark to find one lousey trash can. No wonder there is so much litter. It's almost like it's expected that people should litter.
They've been removing cans in Uptown, too. Real shortage there. I asked one SSA rep down there, and she said they had been removed because people were depositing their household trash in them.
I thought, oh GREAT, they can just stuff the bag under a bus stop bench instead, and people can just throw stuff on the street because they're sick of carrying it. I have walked 4 blocks in Uptown looking for a place to deposit a soda cup.
Well at least something good was done. It's nice to see something positive on here for once. :)
Fly dumpers are always a challenge for streets and san. What about the graffiti above Heartland and on the building on Morse? Have the Graffiti busters artistically excised the tags with Hans Hoffman precision? http://www.hanshofmann.net/art/goldenwall.htm
