Hi Craig,
I feel these topics are reflective of what I see in East Rogers Park. Maybe a mural with a gooning in progress complete with victim spitting teeth and blood like in Barfly. A dog shitting on the sidewalk and commuters unwittingly stepping in said shit. A car being vandalized then ticked and later booted and towed. A car being car-jacked or broken into appeals to me. Guys playing craps, dealing crack, a hooker turning a trick, then buying some crack and having a pimp beat her down.
We could have Dorothy, Tin-man, Scarecrow and the lion skipping to the tune Hookers, Junkies and Thieves oh my. Hookers, Junkies and Thieves oh my. Some could be like a comic strip panel by panel. The last panel is the guy and his dog at the lake being hassled by the police and lifeguards for letting his dog go for a swim.
Maybe the teeming millions have a few other ideas. Suggestions anyone.
Signed,
What Rogers Park really looks like.

Would there be empty malt liquer bottles and cheet-o bags depicted in the mural??
The broken beer bottles, garbage (aka litter) and drug dealers were mentioned during the pow-wow art session.
Man are some people in a dark mood today.
I still say the mural should have been all flowers and plants. We need more of that in the city. Birds, flowers, and trees.
Jocelyn, you're an airhead. Its "gypsies tramps and thieves"... and we have gypsies alright, have a mafia that's developing the new condos at Pratt and Sheridan.
The new condos at Pratt & Sheridan are so laughable. My belief is that the developer, Lohan Development, will take a massive bath on these. I am still laughing. I thought, I supposed to trade my beautiful rental for one of THESE? Believe me, it would be a steep comedown.
But it's better than the one they did at the corner of Thorndale and Winthrop, where they put in extremely modern windows that totally clash with the rather stodgy Prairie Style architecture of the bldg, which is distinctly not the prettiest vintage bldg you ever saw to begin with.
$155K for a 550 sq ft one-bed, that's $280/sq ft.
This building will end up being auctioned. I can't wait.
It ain't Lohan, Its a front for the gypsies....
I'm an airhead? You are such a weirdo! Half the time YOU MAKE NO SENSE.
North Coast we are waiting you to move to Edgewater (49th ward secetion) You have a cup of coffe waiting for you!!
Liveing south of Devon & North of Grandville you still bb in joeys ward!
wow northcoast is ever the pessimist,
i for one am glad they are rehabbing the building at pratt and sheridan,
i wouldve liked it better if it had stayed rental though.
why defect to edgewater?
I wouldnt....
Gentrification is unstoppable,
look at the intersection of greenview and morse.
hmm, something is happening on every single corner,
yeah i guess when you see alot of hoppers around and condosizing
and new retail then it is time to jump ship and go somewhere where gentrification is further advanced....
huh?
cuz when and if the tough gets going the tough get cynical and defect....
lol. You're right. Your comments won't be posted here. You've been banned from commenting.
Panel 1.
Condozilla ( a 50 foot tall male monster) stomping on affordable housing and leaving vacant lots behind.
Panel 2.
Condozilla eating cars full of small children.
Panel 3.
FMLGC.
That's Former Meth Lab Gone Condo.
Making Condozilla sick.
Panel 4.
Condozilla crapping out generic lackluster facades.
Panel 5.
Comed rolling blackout of RP because of the lack of green appliances or construction techniques used in new units.
Panel 6.
Condozilla returning to Lake Michigan by Pratt Street beach.
How about a "Trail of Tears" mural depicting a line of residents walking away and crying about all the new condos and "lack of affordable housing" that has filled their imaginations.
really doesn't matter what they paint...the cycle of graffiti and graffiti removal will cover it all up. Personally, I'd rather just see a bland clean surface rather than a mural--they usually end up looking quite tacky.
Hey, Ryne, I'm coming very soon. Details yet to be worked out...
Write to me at lauralouzader@yahoo.com.
Jeffo, I'm glad they rehabbed that building, because I called about it every night.
However, the time to buy an overpriced, tiny nondescript condo is past.
My bldg's management won't convert. I begged. They might do a flip, and I told them I would hang around if I knew for sure they would, because tenants get first right of refusal.
It isn't 2005 anymore, and people are going to think long and hard before they pay ungodly amounts of dough for a place that doesn't compare to their rental.
I love my rental and would buy it in a heartbeat. I also have loved living at Pratt& Sheridan. But there ought to be some joy in buying a place. You shouldn't be sitting there with condo payments 2X your rent and thinking how much better your rental was than this crappy little condo and how much you miss it. If I bought one of those nothing places at 1200 I'd cry myself to sleep every night thinking about this place.
well northcoast i hope you find a nice condo in your price range,
there should be a deal somewhere,
with all the condo conversions and subsequent auctions,
condo conversions are better than new construction overall.
i wonder about that building at howard and clark. looks nice.
i also wonder about the building at morse and greenview.
the closer to the lake the pricier the condo IMHO,
and pratt and sheridan is a prime location, the market will determine the price, so it will be interesting to see if the market sustains those kind of prices.
i really like how that building is set back from sheridan,
i hope there is a nice restaurant there soon, cuz it perfectly set up for one.
