* Who Pays?

Last month the police and a self addmitted gangbanger got into a wild west style shoot-out in the 1300 block of West Pratt. We had collateral damage on both sides of the street.

One month later the gun battle has left it's scars. One of the two windows penetrated by the stray bullets is now replaced with the all too common boarded up window process.

BLOGNOTES: So, who has to pay for the damage this wild-west shoot-out caused a innocent home owner?

As unfair as it seems, the homeowner pays.
It is just something one has to deal with.
Life is not fair after all.
Oh, except if it is "affordable housing", then it is someone else's responsibility.

Yeah, too bad the owner has to pay. Additionally the owner has to put up with his window boarded while the glass is replaced. It is probably double-pane glass, which means you have to take the entire frame out and send it away to replace the glass, because double-pane is factory sealed. It's not a do-it-yourself job.

However, the owner is likely glad that a window and a sofa cushion got the worst of it. It could have been otherwise.

The owner pays. That's just one of the reasons crime is so hard on property values.

Who pay's for the damages? How about joey moore? according to joey crime is down, (sleep tight) joey is working to keep out the "slumloard" and "drug dealers" out of RP! He is bringing the "commnity together"!

joey is a real work of art! Where has the little pile of crap been?

How come joey fat face isn't on the news talking about the goonings? Why is the owner of the Heartland Cafe talking about the beating?

We all know joey wants to be something more then an aldermen is eye is on a hight prize.Well good for you joey go for the bigger ring, but get the hell out of the way in makeing the 49th ward a better place for the people who live in the ward. Step down, so we can have a aldermen who will address the problems and admit to the problems and solve them.

Time for joe moore to resign!!!

That is quite a laughing matter, or NOT. Hearing shoot-outs in the middle of the night really makes it feel like crime is down...

Actually, the states attorney has a victims hotline, where the victims of violent crime may get some compensation, where possible. Usually, this relates to a criminal case, when people need comfort during the process of tesifying. Whether funding can be obtained in these situations is unclear to me at this time. Just a thought, if the homeowner is looking at this blog or a neighbor wants to look into it for them.

Unfortunately, funds are so tight for victim's compensation that it is usually reserved for cases where the the victim sustained serious injuries, such as a nose smashed and hearing lost in a brutal mugging, or something comparably serious.

You usually have to prove serious injury that leads to loss of income and/or major medical bills to get this compensation.

The hospital signed my husband up for the victim's compensation when he was attacked and had his nose broke in February. Craig ran the story. We did receive paperwork back from the state, but I still haven't seen them actually pay any bills.

The crime victim's fund is very slow in paying. From my very limited experience with it, I think the procedure is that it needs to be approved by the court of claims in Springfield, then once that is done the check comes a couple of weeks later.
