* Floods in Rogers Park

Hi Craig,

I got a question for you. Where is the 49th ward menu money going? It may be spent on worthwhile and important projects for the ward, but what and where are these projects? Driving around Rogers Park Sunday, I noticed that there are lots of areas of standing water. Clearly the ward has sewer issues and seemingly more so than Andersonville (from where I came). For instance the alley between Estes and Touhy on Paulina - it's like a lake! Where's the Joe Moore's ward menu money going?

Signed,

Flooded out in Rogers Park

Dear Flooded Out in Rogers Park, As busy as Joe Moore has been in Washington, and getting petitions signed, my guess would be, Joe Moore didn't get any menu money for us this year because he hasn't done any work at city hall to deserve it.

BLOGNOTES: Is your corner or street flooded? Let us know.

Things Joe Moore should think about when he blindly votes yea for the 2008 city budget.

I live at the end of Pratt an the Lake. The street always floods because a few years ago when the street and sewers were redone, the workers put the sewer intake at the HIGHPOINT on the street.

Coincidently I met one of the workers a few yeas later who is now in business for himself. He said at the time they knew they screwed up but didn't care because they would never be held accountable.

Look at Lake Columbia, at the corner of Sheridan & Columbia.

There is always a veritable ocean at this corner after heavy rain, and pedestrians are forced to walk a half block up Columbian to cross and continue their path on Sheridan.

I live near Columbia and Sheridan. Each and every time it rains, huge ponds of water form at that corner. You have to take a running jump to get up on the sidewalk, or off of it to cross the street, and there's no guarantee that you won't get splashed by dirty water anyway.

my husband's called in that disgusting puddle to 311 more than once, and obviously that doesn't mean anything to them.

The 49th Ward Sanitation office phone number is (312) 744-0940. The 49th Ward Sanitation Inspector (I think that's his title) is Mike Ericson. I had occasion to call them recently regarding an issue on my street and Mr. Ericson responded very quickly. Hopefully, you will have the same positive result.

Lake Rogers (Rogers & Paulina) keeps coming back. Drainage there has never worked properly. There's been a nasty lake at Fargo & Ashland recently, smelling like raw sewage. Yuck!

Perhaps the powers-that-be at City Hall will give Alderliar Moore a fly swatter or two, so that he can whack those West Nile Virus-carrying mosquitos before they bite him!

Yes we have standing water in Front Of Starbucks on the Corner Of Sheridan and Columbia Steets (west side of Sheridan). To cross Columbia one must walk about 1/2 block-West down Albion Steet and squeeze between two parked cars to get back on the side walk to then walk back toward Sheridan. The lake there is very deep and very wide.
