* Followers of Foolishness

Watching this Penn and Teller video reminds me of the people who blindly vote for Joe Moore. Remember, this is the same Penn and Teller who correctly labeled Joe Moore as a Bullshit politician. So, when you watch this, think of the people like Mo Cahill who foolishly sign any petition Joe Moore and his crew pass around. Followers of foolishness. This could be you!

The people who snort and guffaw along with Penn and Teller are just as foolish as the people they make fun of in their show. It's the same style popularized by John Stossle's Give Me a Break and indulged in by our own Rogers Park Bench. The mechanism of the propaganda is to find the most foolish sounding and unflattering representation of the concept or idea they are attacking and compare it with the more reasoned intelligent sounding opposing view. Anyone who has ever studied issues and ideas knows that in order to make an informed and intelligent conclusion you need a balanced and informative representation of the best and brightest arguments from all perspectives. These pieces are nothing more than candid camera pranks and bad 1950s style propaganda dressed up as journalsm and reporting.

Thanks for the great laugh this morning Craig!
I'm surprised that she didn't come across ANYONE who would remember their HS chemistry class and recognize it as water.
I'd also be interested in seeing the same trick played with conservative voters as with progressives.
I do think you are correct...many RP residents vote for a candidate based on party affiliation alone or some other factor (like race or ethnicity). We need to wake up and start asking questions about the values of our politicos BEFORE voting for them.

Someone on this blog, in an earlier post, used the term "sheeple." If this isn't a classic example of "sheeple" I don't know what is. Thanks for the morning funnies, Craig. Great way to start my day.

- PEACE -

Kind of silly if you ask me. Jay Leno pulls the same stuff on dumb ass people all they time. I listened to the whole video and did not hear them mention the name of Joe Moore.

Who's Mo Cahill and why are you picking on her?

been here all my life said...

Craig,

Wondering if you went at all to the block party for the nursing home on Estes between Glenwood and Greenview on Saturday? We had to shut our windows because they chose to play rap music all day long at high volume and most of the lyrics were totally inappropriate for children - some block party!

It does show it's important to ask questions. They are pranks, but the point is to use one's head before blindly being led off a cliff etc...

I like John Stossell - he keeps it real. I like Andy Rooney too. The world needs curmudgeons to point out the nonsense.

There was an article in the trib today about doctor's apologizing for medical mistakes and how this owning of mistakes not only can prevent lawsuits, but it will prevent the same mistakes from being made. By exposing medical mistakes, it gives a chance to learn from them. What does this have to do with this post?

Well, in the article they used an example of a boy that died from internal bleeding. His mother kept begging the doctors & staff to check what was wrong and they insisted it was only gas and pressure and would not do anything. The boy died. The point is never to assume you know what is the truth because you may just be wrong. Blindness comes in many forms. Blind followers as in Pen & Teller's example. Arrogant medical staff in the above anecdote. The message is to be open and also use our heads.

Our newbie Wacky Willy - Soon to follow the likes of, Toto, Ms, Cee Dud, BloggerDaddy49, Been There, and all those followers of Foolishness.

First post begins with a wild comment on just moving to the (affordable) neighborhood from Denver (or where-ever) and crime is bad everywhere, blah, blah blah, it's not so bad here, after a hate crime happens all the time.

Second post, starts to defend Joe Moore indirectly by changing the subject or the facts the story to suit their liking.

Third post... Two weeks later, this poster now knows the neighborhood (and me) like the back of their hand... Talk about all the great shopping is, blah, blah, blah.

Fourth post... Kill the messenger.

Fifth post. Blast Craig as a Rogers Park hater who should just move if I don't like it. (This causes banishment)

Sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, etc, etc posts.... Now their all over on Tommy Wee Wee's blog continuing to blast Craig and now fawn all over Tommy and his blog for covering Craig's blog.
