nothing new; everywhere in the u.s., govt and union jobs are FAT with waste.
when i worked for u.s. steel, if our mill wasn't running due to a blade change, approx 4hrs, we were allowed to sleep, as long as we didn't lay down to do it. because, if they sent us home and then called us back after the blase change, they'd have to pay us 'inconvenience' pay. it was cheaper to let us stay and sleep. gee, i wonder why our mill closed and the town went down the drain?
i went 'home' a few months ago, and main street, with it's trashed/empty store fronts and missing buildings, looks like a good example of a bad smile from a dental hygiene movie. but, there's very affordable housing, EVERYWHERE

Sparky, where's "home"? I once knew a man who's father retired from US Steel, I think. Is home Cleveland, Ohio?
cleveland?, no
pittsburgh.....the whole rust belt was hit about the same time
it became an issue where u.s. steel couldn't make it in that economic climate, and users could buy steel cheaper from foreign suppliers
