• A father discovered his 17-year-old son lying in a parking lot with severe bleeding from his head and other serious injuries on the 7300 block of North Sheridan Road around 11:15 p.m. Sept. 29. The father told police that he heard a noise that sounded like keys jingling at the front door and looked out the window and saw a man trying to enter his apartment. The father chased the man to another apartment where he entered and shut the door. The father realized that his son was still outside in the alley throwing out the trash and he went to check on him, when he saw two men in their late 20s beating up his son. The father fled the apartment and went outside to defend his son, when one of the men ran to a maroon SUV. Witnesses told police that they saw the man beating up the 17-year-old in the parking lot. The second man fought off the father with his fists before he jumped into the SUV and sped west on Chase toward Sherwin with the other man. The son was transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where his condition was listed as stable. The youth was stabbed in both knees, and sustained a broken arm and finger.
• A 28-year-old man was walking home on the 6900 block of North Ashland Avenue around 4 a.m. Oct. 1, when two men grabbed him and took his wallet which contained $50, and his cell phone.
• An armed man in his 20s pulled a 22-year-old man into an alley off the 7700 block of North Marshfield around 2:10 a.m. Sept. 25 and demanded the victim's wallet and hit him in the head with the gun. The man then pointed the gun in the air and pulled the trigger. When the gun wouldn't fire, the man pointed it at the victim and pulled the trigger, but the gun again failed to fire. The victim told police he wrestled for a moment with the man, who then bolted through a yard and gangway.
• Two males in their mid-teens crept up behind a 21-year-old man on the 1300 block of West Morse, and smacked him in the head around 8:45 p.m. Sept. 6. One of the youths lifted his shirt, revealing a gun tucked in his waistband, while the other youth went through the victim's pockets. The victim ran into a nearby business. Both youths fled south on Wayne without getting anything.

I'm not sure what I find more interesting, the ruckus taking place OR the fact that these folks, who can barely form a grammatically correct sentence, have the saavy to peruse the Broken Heart of Rogers Park on the internet.

Craig, my husband and I are grateful for your blog. We're in West Ridge, and had considered buying a condo in East Rogers Park. I mean, after all, it's close to the lake, Loyola University is close and the prices are reasonable. What more could a couple want?
Well, for starters, a neighborhood that isn't over-run by hoodlums and a neighborhood that isn't led by an apathetic alderman.
We've decided to move out of Cook County. If we're going to pay outrageous taxes, we'd rather surrender our money to Lake County. It may cost us a few thousand more to own up there, but we'll happily cough up the extra $$$!
Cook County is an absolute disaster. Everyone knows it is corrupt, but it is so entrenched, it will take decades to reverse the damage.
I was on my way out to work this morning, and a neighbor asks me, "What happened to the laundry room?" I hadn't been in there since I did some laundry on Saturday afternoon, so I didn't know.
I take a peek in the room to see that all of the washers and driers have been ripped from their posts and shoved around the room. The laundry folding table had been shoved around, too.
Finally, I get a hold of building management who confirmed the room had been vandalized. They don't know when it'll be fixed. This is not the first time. I bet it was done by someone who is staying with someone in the building (read: their name is not on the lease), or friends/family of a tenant who roamed in from the outside.
For several days, I've noticed that someone has jammed paper and other materials in the back door so the lock won't catch when the door closes. I have removed whatever was blocking the lock when I saw it, only to find someone had come behind me later and jammed it again. I wouldn't be surprised if the laundry room vandalism was connected to that. The same person or persons who did that could have easily kicked in someone's apartment door.
Craig, it looks like two of these items are reporting the same incident (Sept. 25).

Boxing Tomboy: Are you sure that was just vandalism in the laundry room? Were the coins taken from the machine? That is one of the more common types of Burglaries in Rogers Park, next would be burglary to Auto, i.e. smash and grabs!

You're right, they wanted the money from the laundry machines. I noticed that the coin holder was missing out of one of the machines that was turned over.
I know there are laundry machines that don't take money. While I was attending Northern Illinois, the students used tokens to operate the machines. Maybe if rental and condo management companies would consider that, it would keep down that type of crime.
