* Attention - Skateboarders Wanted

Any readers out there skate - or knows someone who skates? I've got about 15 spaces open for Chicago skateboarders to compete in the first ever Midwest Open Invitational Snowskate Competition. There will be no sign up at the event, it's all pre-register.

I've tentatively have scheduled the event to be held at the Wilson Avenue Skate Park on February 9th, 2008.

I've got verbal commitments from a couple of top snowskaters in the world to show up! Plus some of the top guys posse is in. Phillip, my nephew, is the current holder of 3 Guinness World Records and current X-Games Gold medalist, so he's a lock. (FYI other bloggers: See, we're more than one trick ponies.)

I'm pitching this now because spots will be filling up - and I'd like a chance to give some Chicago kids (or crazy adults) a chance to compete against the worlds best. Besides, if any skaters do want to try, they'll need to get acclimated to a snowskate. It's a skateboard without wheels. Plus, we wouldn't want anyone to be embarrassed in front of the many camera, video and film-makers that will be out in force for this inaugral event.

Blognotes: I'm hoping to save my time here also. If any of my Uptown/Edgewater readers know a good spot to host about a 100 teenager/young adults after the event - for the awards and warm-up (pizza/soda/hot chocolate) let me know. I wouldn't even bother asking anyone in Rogers Park. Joe would just give them and me a hard time.

I'm also looking for a decent Not For Profit to handle the raffle. I'm scoring killer swag, including a autographed snowboard by Phillip to raffle off. All money collected will go directly to the charity I feel best represents the culture of this event, our youth. You know, like a Boy's and Girl's Club - or something like that.

One e-mailer asked if Patrick was coming down to the city too. She wanted to meet him.

Sorry folks, by the time of the event, major trials news will have happened.

I sold Patrick to Italy. Although the paperwork hasn't been signed, his parents just signed off on the deal. (Man-oh-Man and Mom, did that take more work than negotiating the very lucrative contract.)

Hey, are only snowskaters going to be present, or will normal skaters be present? I just moved up here and was going to be doing some video work at the wilson skate park around this time, but I was only interested in normal skaters.

We're hoping there's natural snow covering the park on that day. After all, it's February.

If not, we're planning on bringing in snow for the south end of the park.

The bowls will be untouched.

I can't turn in the permit until Jan. 1, 2008, but I'd be securing the whole skate park that day.

I've got a couple of back-up spots if Helen wants to put a ca-bash on the contest because she hates me too. I'll take it to 35th street or Evanston. (yes, I've put in place back-ups)

This whole pissing off politicians sometimes sucks when you want to do something of this nature. Oh well, that's life in the fast lane.

On a personal note, a skate park isn't required to pull off this event. I could bring this event to Loyola Park or Warren Park. (Guess why I'm not even going there?)

The reason I chose Wilson - it's a great location and it was tax payer funded. I'd like to use something our tax dollars went for.

Plus, I wanted to showcase it to world-class snowskaters. This is a way for people to use the park when it snows. Another way to stay active and out-of-trouble.

I wish I knew how to snowskate. I barely remember how to skateboard. Otherwise, I'd be all over that event.
