* Mother Who Abandoned Kids on CTA Fled to Rogers Park
"With help from a "sharp" 311 operator, police found a mother of three Monday who left two of her children on a CTA Red Line train Thursday evening on the South Side. About 5:30 a.m. Monday, a 311 call was received from the mother -- who was in the 6700 block of North Bosworth Avenue -- and a "sharp operator" recognized her description and immediately called detectives while she was still on the other line, according to Wentworth Area Sgt. Kevin Duffin. "She [the operator] said, 'what do you want me to do?'"Duffin said. "I said 'stall her,' and they [police] grabbed her." Source.

A parent who appears not to have been able to handle the responsibility does something like this, and people have the nerve to critize the childfree.

Yes, tomboy.
Women still have to run a gauntlet to obtain birth control and voluntary sterilization. The cost of birth control to Medicaid recipients has TRIPLED in the past couple of years, and a childless woman almost can't obtain a sterilization.
Yet anybody, absolutely ANYBODY, no matter what kind of criminal or psychiatric history she has, no matter how far to the left of the I.Q. divide she may be, can have children. She can have as many as she wants and no one will lift a finger to stop the creation of torture victims and future foster children.
I'd rather have been aborted than be born to such a parent as this woman.
May the Gods help these hapless kids, who will spend the remainder of their childhoods being shunted from one foster home to the other- what wonderful homes!!!!-to end up on the streets at age 18, most likely undereducated and lacking in the personal and survival skills you won't learn in school, and that only a loving, competent parent can impart.
But since the Gods have never been known to intervene on behalf of all the other hundreds of millions of children living and starving in shantytown slums around the world, and being shot by the police for stealing from fruitstalls at age three; or the millions of kids here being born to morons in conditions of unspeakable squalor, I'm not optimistic about the future of these kids.
