* Spelling Bee a Smash Hit (Updated)

They dropped like fly's. Sixty contestants started. Twenty made it to the second round. Then, after two rounds complete, only seven were left standing. When the third round was in the books, we had two. Finally, after the first word in the fourth round, it was over. Some smarty-pants beat another in the inaugural Morseland Spelling bee. The winner got a trophy and a bunch of cool prizes.

Blognotes: The theatre troupe, who's name I don't know, acted as the judges and announcer for the evening festivities. Their campy, over-the-top costumes and act were a hit. The room was totally packed to the gills. For the crowd that likes to arrive late, they had to wait until someone left before another could enter.

Howard Area Community Center was the beneficiary. As a token of thanks, the organization handed out these hand-decorated Christmas tree ornaments.

By my account three bloggers were there besides myself. Frankie, Jocelyn and Tom Mannis. Mannis was entered in the contest, but didn't make it past the first round. Naturally I got to heckle the shit out of him for his poor performance. Mannis was also double dipping in the journalism department. After being eliminated, he picked up his camera and note-pad to cover the action, word for word. I'll hyper-link his story so everyone doesn't have a canniption fit. Oops - sorry. That's spelled c-o-n-n-i-p-t-i-o-n.

Over-all, the Adult Spelling Bee was a smash hit. One business owner who's opening up a theatre down the street was overheard saying that he's thinking of doing a Spelling Bee 7 nights a week. Now that would be overkill.

Update: The Bench has announced the winner.

A-ha. I wondered if that was you. I was sitting at end of the bar right by you guys. I almost walked up to you and asked you if you were Craig. Will do so next time...

My girlfriend was in the bee and we were both annoyed that the person reading the words out had a very odd pronunciation.

Wow, I almost had a heart attack and died, craig makes an apology.

Well it's about time.

Let's see, there's more you owe, here's a partial list

Don Gordon (your bedmate - you used to insult him, and now you are for him.......)

The Heartland Cafe (For the lies and bullshit you spew about them with NO Basis)

The Morse Theater (For talking shit when they initially were planning to build the venue - Parking/Noise - Remember?)

Loyola University (For spewing shit about them in so many ways, I can't even begin to count)

The Band Roundeye (for accusing one of their members for being me - and how dare you compare a punk kid to a MAN like me asshole)

Rogers Park (For being a lying biased sack of shit)

Staff of Gay Chicago Magazine ( For making our lives hell)

Joe Moore (For blaming him for ALL that's wrong in Rogers PArk - there were those before him who started this downward spiral, and you only use him as a scapegoat Craig and those like you)

Morse Gyros (For attacking a man and his buisness, a staple in the community for 30 years - Nino, who worked there as a grill man in the 70's and now who owns his own buisness. He can't control who comes in to eat there Craig, but yet you don' t like him so he's bad and should be out of buisness if you had your way. Every area in the city has a fast food place like that, and he';s ahard working man - there 6 days a week, supports his family and himself from that place)

Alberto's Pizzaria ( again another staple in Rogers Park, been in the area for 30 + years, from when they were on Clark to now on Morse - double parking - look outside of anyother neighborhood pizza delivery place and you'll see the same thing. And Now they have a parking lot)

David Fagus (For insulting him for trying to give back to the community with movies in the Park)

So Craig, why don't you keep up the apologies!
