* Fire Shuts Down Lunt. Tenant Loses Pet Bird

This morning at about 8 AM, a fire broke out in a courtyard building on Lunt. The exact address was 1443 West Lunt. The cause looks to be a piece of furniture. The fire displaced about a dozen residents, while others watched from their windows. Mobile Command was called to the scene. One tenant left her apartment with her bird and cage. But during the time it took to put out the fire, the bird somehow got out of the cage and flew up to a tree branch near-by, causing this renter even more trauma.

No, Mo, the bird flew the coop. Hope the bird is as tough as you say.

well, perhaps you could do a public service and see if you can get some info out about this bird.
here are a couple things that people need to know-
one- most birds, as i said, are tough enough to survive a couple of days out in the weather, especially since we seem to have a break in the cold going.
two- escaped birds don't usually go far. unless they are blown around, they rarely go more than a block or so. they get up there, and they freak out. they do their best to be invisible, and stay tucked in and hiding.
three- they come down on the morning of the third day. unless this bird has a well practiced recall, even if it saw the owner, i probably wouldn't know what to do. but on the morning of the third day is when hunger takes over from fear, and they will usually come down if they see "mom" with a tempting snack. if it is not that tame, it might still return to it's cage if it has the opportunity.

so, try to get more info- what kind of bird is it? does it talk or whistle? anyone close to this building have a feeder? find it today, and it has a chance.

When I was a kid, there was a huge parrot in my back yard that had flown about 6 miles from its home in 3 or 4 days. We called the police who contacted the birds owners. I kept the bird there with peanut butter on the end of celery sticks until its family came. Although it was a small town in the 70's, what BEEN THERE is saying seems right on. Any news on the poor bird?
