Exactly how active Bernard? I haven't got a e-mail blast or seen anything on his website.
Craig - Good report. I hope readers don't misplace the blame on Golden Mini Mart's owners, though. They are the ones who, more than anybody else, have to put up with this crap every day and every night. Let's remember, too, that Alderman Moore's people and DevCorp are unfairly pressuring them and other merchants on Morse Avenue to remove their protection window gratings. The neighborhood is not yet ready to remove all of the window gratings. A little sympathy for the merchants is in order.
No blame on the owners, just the angry customers.
Just one thing, I haven't seen the owners at any CAPs meetings, which might be helpful if they would work with the police more proactively. Just an idea.
When I was young and dumb - and wasted my time having smoke blown up my ass at CAPS meetings, I would try to get the old owner to attend.
He told me CAPS meetings were a waste of his time and was not worth closing his shop and losing income for.
Obviously, the CAPs Office has to be more creative in soliciting the publics concerns in an age when the internet becomes the most efficient and effective eyes and ears.
Crime is down 49%, right Joe Moore?
that whole strip is one big eye sore and should be torn down. since the owners don't seem concerned enough try and fix the issue as things stand now, perhaps they could become motivated by the threat of being closed (and torn) down.
emptying the rider buildings was a giant step towards improving morse, and tearing this strip down and replacing it with something nicer and more practical, concerning the space, would definitely be another giant positive step towards improving rogers park.
i still can't understand why they didn't just tear down the strip on the other side of the morse stop, instead of building one nice new building, which is also taller than the others, and only half-assedly "remodeling" the others. doesn't really make sense to me.
