Blognotes: Is this how things get done around here? No sooner than the story appears on the 'Broken Heart', so does one of Stanley's car. So, either Stanley reads this site, one of Stanley's neighbors reads the site and told Stanley about it, or the Alderman called Stanley and told him he better fill those handicap spots the Alderman provided him.
More questions than answers. Where does Stanley store his car when it's not in this spot? Where is Stanley's other car? Why does Stanley need two handicapped spots?
Even with a super-big gas guzzler, why does he need such big spot? Look at the photo evidence. He's a freaking parking hog. When he does use this spot, look at how many feet is between the front of his car and the placement of the front sign. And look closer, he's parked in the little space in between the two signs. The little spot he loves calling the police when others try to park there.
Like one reader said, there's so much wasted space, you could park Willie Nelson's tour bus here.
So my suggestion is this. Slap Joe right back in the face. Teach him a lesson. Don't vote for any candidate Joe has endorsed this election cycle. That will hurt him where it counts most.

Why not leave a note on "Stanley's" car with your email address or phone number, asking him to call you and explain the reason for the double handicapped parking space?
It might save you more time and frustration (and keep your blood pressure in check) than stalking around with your digital camera and speculating the reason for why this double space is there.
If you've done so, I apologize. But it appears to me this is one more instance of the passive-aggressive behavior that results from living in a crowded, urban environment like East Rogers Park.

There is no reason for this nonsense. Mayor Daley makes me pay an additional $35.00 for my residential parking sticker and half the time I don't need it because I have to park on a street that does not require it because of these outrageous handicapped spots. I'm tired of driving around the block over and over and seeing one car taking up five viable spots!

This goes much further than parking spots when it come to this menace, Stanley Rankin. Not that it will stop it from happening, but I feel compelled to inform the building that he lives in to be prepared for another bogus law suit. If you search the county records, not only will you find the bogus law suit he has against the City, but you will find multiple such suits involving both his child's mother and him, as well as multiple evictions. This guy is a real pro at working the system and needs to be stopped!

Get off Joe's ass. I'm so sick of hearing you guys bash Joe.. Nobody in office would satisfy you guys.. You remind me of my ex wife, she was even tempered. She stayed mad all the time..
I am so glad this has been brought to people's attnetion. This has been going on for a while. This summer, a girl with a yellow jeep was parking in that handicapped spot using Mr. Rankin's permit. I know for a fact that she is not disabled (let's face it disabled people do not drive Jeep Wranglers). She lives in the condo above Mr. Rankin. My guess is that she gave Mr. Rankin her garage parking space and he gave her the handicap permit. To make a long story short, I know people in the neighborhood who left notes on her car letting her know how dispicable that was. Everyone in the neighborhood knew she was a fraud. Needless to say, the yellow jeep no longer parks in that spot. ANother interesting thing about Rankin was that a few months ago, there were notes attached to all the doors of the building wanting information on a "hate crime" against him. Apparently, some damage was done to his cars (though I never saw anything unusual) and he was looking for information about the "Hate Crime". This guy is up to something, and it aint good. Seems to me he makes his money by sueing everyone and everything!!! Again, I am glad that this has received some attention. I just hope that Joe Moore does something about this blatant disrespect for the law.
If you haven't already, PLEASE do your part by contacting the Alderman. So far, Moore has been responsive to me and what I've shared with him.
Also, if anyone out there lives in his building or knows how to get a hold of someone who does, please let me know, or contact me.
the yellow jeep was a big problem as well, she def. had a garage space and was not disabled. i ran into the owner of rankin's condo he is renting one day as he was showing the condo to new prospective renters and asked about his tenant and he said he has tried for months to get him removed, apparently hasn't paid rent in months and he found this out the hard way. now, the guy refuses to leave and he he has done this in several other spots. why he rented to this guy is mysterious as he obviously did not do a background check. now, he can't get him removed. i'm curious who the owner of this condo is and what is being done to remove this guy. the neighbors i know are all keeping their eyes on this guy and hope he will leave soon. he is up to no good, has had strange run-in with an undercover squad car late one night that took him away- he doesn't work either, he is home all day long, except for a few car trips per day at odd hours. very mysterious.....

I have contacted Joe Moore's office. I contacted him this summer when the yellow jeep was illegally using the permit. I also contacted him when they changed the signs more recently. I did not understand why they moved the signs to the way they are. Seems like a waste of taxpayer money to get some city workers out to move a sign two feet. I hope this has brought more attention to others out there. If it can happen on Pratt, it can happen anywhere in RP. I understand the point of having a disabled spot for people who need it and use it appropriately, but this guy sucks!!!
