* Outdated Political Signs Pose Dangers to Community
Dear Alderman Moore:
The plastic political signs with sometimes invisible metal prongs have gotten out of control. The signs cease to be protected speech, when those who post trespass on property without permission. The signs have turned into an arguable danger to toddlers and a nuisance. Many are placed on parkways for which property owners gave no permission for posting. The parkways are directly parallel to car doors and once the plastic flies, the prongs are left and can poke the eyes out of toddlers. I find that shortsighted politicians overlook the communities concern about this challenge.
The signs are non-biodegradable and indiscriminately blow onto private property. In their wake, nearly invisible metal prongs protrude from the ground posing safety risks to toddlers, children, and frolicking adolescents. These signs can be regulated out of the neighborhoods. The signs and the remaining prongs should be banned from the parkways. Fewer signs should be made for the few willing to voluntarily post on their own property.
The signs are a danger in my opinion. I fear that it is only a matter of time before a child lands on one and is injured, skewered, and perhaps killed by one. Horseplay is an issue and the metal prongs should not be so readily accessible to those with questionable intentions.
I cannot understand why this condition is being ignored, when it is open and obvious. It seems utterly reckless to this resident that Streets and Sanitation is not strongly encouraged to take responsibility. Also, if politicians and ward political hacks really cared about the community, then these signs would not be posted in the first place.
Sincerely,
Kevin Dixler

We live in the only ward I've been in recently where these signs still litter the streets-- 43rd ward? Nope. 44th ward? No way. Haven't seen any in the 40th or 48th either.
Laziness. That's all this is.
I'd rather you post pictures of dog shit.....
Check out Sheridan and Pratt, Craig.
My god, who really cares? Just pick up the trash and move on!
These abandoned signs are all over Evanston. It's definitely a litter issue, and the candidates should be accountable. That being said, Mr. Dixler is overly dramatic when he cites the danger of skewering or killing a child.
we do!!!!!!!!!!!!!
invisible? hello. earth calling. just pick them up. you live in a democracy. be grateful. pitch in. quit cryin'.
Well Craigie Poo Poo, did you pick up the ones that you put out there for the loser you sided with?
Now granted you "claim" some one took a lot of the signs that you put out for the loser, but did you pick up the signs that were left that you put out after the election?
I think not
HYPOCRITE!
Dixler the Drama Queen should get his pudgy little ass out and pick up some signs. One man working hard for a day could clean up the whole ward. Think what a demonstration you could make with all those signs in a pile.
At 6 foot 4 inches tall, Larry Suffredin is a big ass litter bug.
There are many criminally inclined residents in Rogers Park who are wayyyyyyyy more of a danger to people than those cardboard political signs.
What a joke to say those signs are a great danger, Mr. "Chicken Little" Dixler.
And if you dont believe me, just take a stroll around the Morse el after 6 pm. You'll wish it was just a discarded political sign you have to worry about.
The criminal element in RP are the main reason this blog exists!
Yeesh!
My team made a good faith effort to collect all signs. However, if some were missed, please contact me. I'll have them collected.
Thanks,

If you don't want to call Suzanne, I've got another suggestion.
Take a photo of her signs, write down the address, download the photos on your (or your moms) computer. Then start Elders Old Campaign Sign blog and share it with us. It's free.
To who cares:
It's annoying as hell, just like you.
What about the 'banner' signs from last year that are still hanging on buildings? It took a ladder and crew to put them up. Perhaps the ward office could get the crew to remove them? Check out the east side of the building where Round The Clock is. Just bigger than life!
Some of us are a little weary of picking up other peoples trash while paying their outrageous salaries.
the criminally insane put out old Marie Ann Smith campaign signs on my corner of Thorndale. Seriously.
Recently, I overheard a streets and san worker from the 50th call abandoned signs "job security". Inspiring.
It’s absolutely amazing, but Don Gordon was the only one to keep his word after the election, and runoff election for alderman. Did anyone try spotting his lawn signs after the election? Nope, because he, his staff, and his volunteers cared enough for our community to remove the sign from the polling places and corners the moment they closed.
Michael Erikson gets around as much as he can (you can see him working on Saturday and Sundays, which he is probably not compensated for) picking up this trash and emptying the corner cans that people use as there home garbage cans. After the aldermanic elections he found lots of the Moore-On lawn signs still on the street, even the shill candidate had signs out and he WASN’T EVEN IN THE RUNOFF.
Guess when you can’t get community volunteers to work for you and have to hire temp workers like Moore-On does, your trash remains. Even the Don Gordon banners were removed by his volunteers within days. I guess those who voted for Moore are now getting what they deserved. Maybe next time this community will wake up and throw out the real trash in the community, Moore-On himself.
