Yo-Chicago's Video Summary of Howard Street in 2007. 15 Years or So - Boarded-up and Bleak!

2007 - 2008. Howard Street is still a Hell Hole full of empty and abandoned store fronts. Not to mention a haven for Chicago Police gang and drug dispersal's.

There are only a couple of good businesses on Howard. I try to give them as much support as possible, but the rest of it is an absolute wasteland.

For the most part, it IS a haven for gangbangers, drug dealers, and seedy loiterers. Not an attractive area at all.

Our punishing sales tax isn't going to do much to encourage a would-be business to open.

Palatine looking into ways it can secede from Cook County in wake of new increase.

We need more of these border cities to do the same. A revolt is in order.

I'm livid to find out the fucking Alderman voted to increase their 'extra/extra' per year money. These guys are gosh-darn crooks.

I never thought I'd end up saying that, in many respects, Howard Street was better 10 years ago. Sad.

Howard Street - Buying shoes with Mom and Dad! Two great shoe stores to choose from. The Howard Juvenile Store and Mort Gibbian Bootery. The Greek Restaurant on the corner of Howard and Paulina where we all went for cokes and shakes after 'Lighted SchoolHouse' at Gale School on Friday nights.
Huck Finn Doughnuts....The Independent Grocer....not a bad place for a quick shop for groceries along with great service. The pet store where you could buy birds and fish and maybe a puppy or two!I am not sure what happened but my Dad simply said stay off Howard. We did what we were told. Why is it such a mess. Even with the great opening of the Dominick's Anchor Store. It hasn't brought much to aid in the redevelopment of Howard.
It used to be a neat place to hang and go into different shops and look around. The Woolworth's!
Who living in Rogers Park still remember these good 'ole days.

The restaurant on the corner of Howard and Paulina was DeMars!
What a place.....and oh yeah the
Gold Coin at Howard and Clark - a landmark meeting place during the blizzard of 1967!
Many of you simply do not know what a luxury living in Roger Park
can be! and one more hang out was the Howard Theatre where you could go to the movies and not worry about being safe - all your neighbors were there
