Can Craig, Don, Tom or someone else inform us what we can do about this? I just emailed Moore's office about it, asking for answers, but I live at the other end of Leona's/Loyola Park from this place and with the wind blowing from the north I can imagine much flying into our windows unbeknownst to us. Can we band together to FORCE a quick resolution?
I spoke with the Illinois EPA person who is monitoring the cleanup of the site and he said that he ordered them (company doing the removal) to saturate the debris with water as it is being removed (this is when it can be hazardous). They are also supposed to make sure this water doesn't go into the sewer (if so, they should put a filter on the sewer). He doesn't think they need a poly cover over the site. That being said, don't go hopping the fence.
Funny...I got an email response from Anne Sullivan basically saying not to worry about it, everyting is fine and that Tom and Don are lying about the situation. Of course Joe Moore, being the upstanding alderman that he is would NEVER lie to the public by saying the situation is fine and not to worry about it. So, I guess we can go back to drinking the Kool-Ade. ;)
There will be more in the press about this... As for keeping the site wet, it appeared to be bone dry when I took the photo of it on March 30. Dr O's comment is right on: Sullivan and Moore are LYING about this.
