* Roll-over on Glenwood (Update)

If you had trouble going down Glenwood this evening, here's the reason. Some crazy driver rolled his car over at Devon and Glenwood. Yeah, he was injured. The dude was scared too. As they hauled him off on the stretcher you could see he peed his pants. The first call came in about 7:40 PM.

Blognotes: I've got some disturbing video I'm downloading of some regular Joe's trying to tip the car upright after the crash. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the official firemen and police allowed the residents to try this crazy stunt.

Update: Here's the crazy video! Did they really think they could tip it back over?

thanks for posting. I live @ 6426 and was horrified when I saw the scene tonight. I thought for sure that someone had died. Glad that a soggy bottom was the worst of it (hopefully)!

Jesus, they thought they could right the car by rocking it until they built up enough momentum to tip it ON END? I'm just glad they didn't end up with more seriously injured people to tend to as a result.

The police and firefighters should have put an end to the efforts to "help", instead of participating in the attempt. Jobs like that are what tow trucks and other big tools are for.

Just read some of your older posts & recognize the disparing tone about ol' RP. Just want to say that I really believe in the ability of the community to come around and I think that, in spite of all the bad stuff, that RP is still one of the undiscovered gems of the city...and I've lived in LP, WP, and -gasp!- willingly moved here in 2005. There's lots of work to be done but when it happens, it's going to be worth it to have lived here, in an ethnically diverse area that's close to the lake, quiet, and full of beautiful architecture.

north coast: You're not the only one who thinks we have some really dumb firemen around here.
I've seen rolled over cars flipped back by everyone pushing from one side, but never did I see anything as stupid as this rocking crap tonight.

Well, if Sheridan Road is North Lake Shore Drive, then Glenwood is North & West Lake Shore Drive (or Broadway?) as people are forever racing down it to either cut north or south and avoid Sheridan.

And don't get me started on the Pratt & Glenwood intersection. If anyone has suggestions on how to get stop signs on Pratt, I'd love to hear it as (shockingly) I haven't heard back from the Alderman's office.

Anyway, not surprised at all that someone flipped a car. I'm going to wager some speed was involved as is so frequently the cas on Glenwood. Makes me feel great as a mom who lives a few doors down from Glenwood.

Hey Melsy...welcome to the rants and raves, we-hate-development-but-love-to-complain board. Soon you'll find yourself throwing your hands in the air at the tone and general crankyness of the people on this board. Beware, people don't pick up their dog poop, there are speeding cars, and yes some real problems. Apparently everything is equal here and nothing to positive or good about Rogers Park, except the few people who actually care. (Care to complain!)

That car probably slipped on a "chip bag"

I understand people wanting to help, but their efforts could have made a bad situation worse for the victim. Usually the police and fire department frown upon good Samaritans in the way. I'm surprised they allowed people to get that close to the car.

Gee Craig, that looks like you trying to flip the car back over - I mean really It looks like something that some on with your education level would attempt.
