There was quite a bit of commotion going on at the Morse Theatre Friday morning. With some false information going out, I contacted Boss McGhee to get the straight dope.
Craig, Thanks for the opportunity to comment. For the record, they are not picketing - they are 'observing' - their term.
They were illegally blocking the public way trying to interfere with a delivery from FexEx, they were pulling construction refuse out of a dumpster and scattering it on the sidewalk, and were generally harrasing and blocking people walking on the sidewalk as well as attempting to intimidate people associated with the project. One of them (the business agent) verbally threatened both myself and my GC. We were tired of it and I directed our folks to call.
The Sergeant who came was emphatic that either they moved off the public way and stopped interferring with the business of the Morse Theatre project or they would be quickly arrested.
They have a right to hand out literature, which I personally 100 percent support - even if they make misleading or incorrect statements about myself - I can live with that just fine. But, they do not have the right to harrass or intimidate other citizens going about their business. That was the position of the Sergeant who responded to our call and I believe she was quite correct when she properly did her job. I assume they were aware their actions were illegal, because that was the end of their games - at least for today.
We keep working hard to bring The Morse Theatre back to life.

I said it before, I'll say it again, it looks like those union boys are afraid of a little free market competition. Next thing you know they'll be parroting Obama and say that the economy hasn't grown under NAFTA.
As far as I know, Chicago is a free to work city. This sort of stuff really pisses me off. You should not be forced to use union workers if you don't want to.
