A reader sent me this. I can't confirm until I return home this afternoon. That's if anyone cares?
Two groups of men traded gunfire at about 4 am on Ashland between Morse and Pratt. There were at least four gunshots. Police arrived about 15 minutes after the incident, but the men had dispersed by then.
I thought I heard something similar to the sounds I heard (gunshots) on the morning of the shooting at 5:45am on the corner of Lakewood and Morse. I live at Lakewood and Farwell.
It was the middle of the night and I thought I heard approximately the same number of shots- 5 or 6, but far away and unclear what they were. It was obvious when it was closer to my home. Now I think I am also hyper vigilant and could have been mistaken, but it is interesting to read this post- who knows!
I called 911 at 4:10 am to report hearing 3 shots. One "pop" shortly followed by two. (I'm was not one of the anonymous wimps, I gave my name to the 911 operator). After I hung up I heard three more. I'm between Ashland and Clark on Farwell. They sounded like they came from the corner near the Library.
The operated asked me "do you want to be anonymous?" She didn't ask, "do you want give your name or be anonymous?". It's as if you are prompted to be anonymous.
You defiantly have to override the 911 operators. They do direct the caller to the anonymous status. I think it's being lazy on the job. It's too critical of a position to do that type of lazy work.
It's not that they are lazy, it's that most people do not want to be identified. MOST people want the police to solve their problems for them with no effort to help themselves. They don't want anybody to know that they called the Police. Pickup the phone and shazam, the problem goes away. That's what they want. And your right, calls that come in anonymously do not get the same prompt attention that the ones in which the caller cares enough to leave his/her name. That does not apply to in progress calls or calls where violence may occur of course. But if people don't care enough to help me help them, well then,............

This type of call gets a much faster response time. Thanks for that!

I witnessed this exchange. It was a paint-ball game. Nothing to see here, people. Go back to you homes.
Those were 2 of Joke Moore's precinctcaptains having a turf battle.
