* Police Manpower Diverted, Along With Traffic on Clark Street
If you wondered why Clark Street from Lunt to Albion was closed last night, don't bother contacting Joe Moore or his incompetent staff of do-nothings. They don't know. And if they did, they wouldn't tell you the truth. I'll tell you what happened.
Clark Street was closed due to a bunch of 'liquored up' Mexicans celebrating their Independence from paying their fair share of taxes to the United States government. Not only that, they used this platform to antagonize the Chicago Police. Large groups of young revelers, with their national flag draping over their backs, marched up and down Clark Street chanting unknown slogans at the police in a very hostile tone.
Every time I asked someone who could actually speak english what was being chanted, the common denominator was "the police suck..."
Blognotes: There were a couple arrests from what I noticed, but not enough. This incident took a lot of police manpower from other crimes happening in the neighborhood. Like all the duty free, open air drug markets. Isn't it cool being the most diverse neighborhood in the city?

"drunk Mexicans celebrating their Independence from paying their fair share of taxes to the United States government"
Sir I am curious to know how this deduction was made. Please explain this specific facet in greater detail.
Sure, Rob.
Many were carrying beer in their hands, covered in brown and plastic bags.
I watched them tip these bags contents in their mouths from time to time.
They were staggering around and yelling like drunk sailors.
Those I talked to smelled of alcohol and said alcohol fueled the scene. I talked to over 20 people on scene.
Many were walking out of the liquors stores with 12 packs of beer.
Beer cans littered the streets and sidewalks.
I'm guessing the arrests were alcohol related.
Any more dumb questions?
No such thing as a dumb question Craig, which by the by, you still didn't answer.
so I quote you again: "celebrating their Independence from paying taxes to the government"
See I tend to find your sight interesting, and as a long-term RP resident (near 30 years)I can empathize with your qualms. The aforementioned strikes me as somewhat erroneous on your end though, and I am curious to know how this was the theme of their rather loud and disruptive display.
What surprises you more, the fact that the event even took place, that there was a huge amount of Police Officers assigned to it draining resources even further or that they were being disrespectful to the Police? The fact is that these little Mexican Independence Day events have become a staple in the Mexican community. When I worked tac, we were being sent out to Pilsen about 3-4 times a month during the months of Aug. and Sep., IIRC. We could never figure out why it was that one country could have three or four "Independence Days" until we did some research and found out that there were actually three or four "community groups" that were competing for power through "Independence Day" activities. Once again, it is a HUGE drain on our resources. But nobody really cares because after all, this is a "sanctuary city" which encourages and fosters ethic diversity, illegal aliens coming and establishing roots here and the celebration of that diversity and criminal behavior. This city encourages people to come here from other countries and retain the customs and language of their former country rather than encouraging them to adopt the language and customs of American society. And as far as the showing of disrespect to the Police, why does that surprise you? It happens all the time. If we arrest them the City, the community and the newsmedia will side with the marchers and portray the Police as jack booted thugs. Ask any man on the street about this and listen to his response. He will more than likely take the side of the marchers and try to make the Police look as though THEY are the ones that are they are the ones that are wrong or don't know what they are doing!
Sure, "Rob" - I'll answer.
From the demographic of Clark Street, many of these revelers are undocumented citizens who don't file taxes in this country. They can't even register to vote. I've worked election cycles since 2002 in that area, door to door, many times - and have been told this fact by every door that opened.
They live under the United States Government radar.
I wanted to photograph the close-up faces of more than half of those I interviewed. They all declined to give their names and didn't want their photos taken. And they claimed they didn't speak english.
Not me, I take the side of the police. I don't think it's about hating Mexicans or anyone else. It has to do with illegals taking up police time, having a ruckus and bothering others. People come here to live - then they should learn to live in the United States, this is not Mexico.
How many of these guys do you ever see in Service uniforms standing on the front lines fighting for their right to pay their fair share of taxes? It'a "JOKE". While they are over here fighting the police in the streets and slowly taking over our country, the real American men are fighting and loosing their lives oversees so that these guys can have the right to get drunk, and drain the system even more. When is enough - enough?
Sorry, comment moderation has been turned on. I need to get to work and Joe Moore's race-baiters have entered the zone.
C'mon Craig. Call if sick. Aren't you the owner?
Illegals with legitimate jobs have to present a ss# upon their hire. Regardless of if the number is stolen taxes are still collected off their check (if they are paid in cash, their employer pays taxes whether or not the books are cooked)and come tax time these illegals forfeit their returns; they cannot claim social security or medicare benefits, the patriot act severely limits their banking options, and currency exchanges take what, 10-15%? Could it be that these people are limited in their ability to assimilate?
Granted the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" fable reinforces the aim of the patrician at the expense of the plebeian, the average joe eats that sh!t up with a fork and asks for seconds, believing the lie that it is not sh!t at all but caviar-
but I digress...Our national identity is the null identity: what is considered American is the product of immigrants (albeit culturally biased towards a protestant standard)our culture is derived from their experiences, not from a generic, propagandized, nationalism.
As a journalist and a representative of RP Craig, you should strive for greater objectivity. And I am who I am, no need to "" my name.
Viva, Senor Craig!
Fuck off looser. I am nobodies race baiter. Certainly not Joe Moore's...
If it was a bunch of red neck motor bike assholes in Wisconsin it would be a party.
Fuck you Craig.
That's a 2 time AMA National Championship bunch of red neck motorcycle asshole team to you, Charlie.
Nw go back to the Official Joe Moore website bulletin board and talk with your race-baiting buddies.
Oh, that's right, Joe Moore had you shut it down.
Ask any man on the street about this and listen to his response. He will more than likely take the side of the marchers and try to make the Police look as though THEY are the ones that are they are the ones that are wrong or don't know what they are doing!
Wow, a veiled reference? Am I constantly on your mind or something? Just for the record, I don't swing that way so if this obsession is evidence of something else, you're out of luck.
But for the record, if they're staging an unauthorized "parade", interrupting traffic flow and drinking in public they should be hauled off to jail like any other person doing this, "independence day" or not. And if they're in the country illegally, they should be deported and made to apply for citizenship through the proper channels like anyone else from any other country. Just because your country is adjacent to ours doesn't mean you get special privledges.
Does that help?
Oh, that's right, Joe Moore had you shut it down.
And the hits just keep on coming!
You really should do stand up Craig.
Craig sounds like a white trash resident of Carpentersville.
Man on the street- I hate to burst your bubble but it's not all about you.
Man on the street- I hate to burst your bubble but it's not all about you.
Yeah. Right. Nothing to do with me at all.
You stink at being coy.
Looks like Fri. and Sat. night on the Viagra triangle scene to me, minus the flags.
I don't like these "celebrations" either but damn you guy\gals take it over the top.
I came here illigally (5 yrs. old) due to the U.S backed war in my country (gave up exhausted at border - judge granted access). Mother struggled but refused to get welfare, learned english from day one, paid taxes, own properties, super patriotic (pisses some of my liberal "American" neighbors off), vote and so on. I can't tell by looking at that pic who is illigal or not.
Some of you may think that using big words in your comments makes you smart but I can see right through you.
I don't like illigal immigration as well but I dislike stupid people even more.
so, this is a high crime, because we all know that NNNOOOO police resources are used for, oh, st patrick's drunken parties and parades, or oh, columbus day. nope. no drain on resources for those ethnicities at all.
and other's comments about illegals paying taxes are correct. they not only usually have taxes withheld that they get no benefit from, they are often withheld at the highest levels, as they don't have ss numbers for dependents.
*illegal*
big words in your comments makes you smart but I can see right through you.
I would deduce that ^ is aimed towards me...
No RP30, words don't make one smart, but how one uses them is typically a measure of intelligence.
Somewhat OT RP30, but if the US supported conflict in your country, why come here? A five-year old can by all means aim and pull a trigger...
As far as patriotism is concerned, well, here is another big word: Jargon
How often do you encounter a Mexican panhandler?
Clark might well be neglected and trashed like Howard if not for the pride and hard work of the Mexican people.
Well at 5 years old I made the adult decision to grab my family who was older than me and move them to the U.S. due to the conflict. When I carried them on my back across the desert in hopes of meeting my uncle (U.S citizen who would help us out) I was thinking of a better life and what place better than the beutiful U.S.A?
You pointed yourself out buddy!
been there writes like a fifth grader...
@ RP30
lol to sarcasm. really.
"You pointed yourself out buddy!"
From a tactical standpoint, you gotta do better than that if you want to make detective...
Possibly the only person one could know anything about from this thread is Craig.
Why is that so many Americans hate Mexicans but love their food?
The most popular ethnic restaurant choice in the US? That's right . . . those that serve tacos, burritos, flautas, fajitas, quesadillas, margaritas . . . . .
Wow, I like this site, but the comment about the Mexicans and the taxes, etc. is a bit much. Craig, you may have some dubious or not so dubious data, but ultimately you cannot make such sweeping assumptions unless you have individual, case by case/person by person evidence. Please don’t ruin this blog with such reactionary bullshit.
Thanks.
Agreeing with 'kung fu grip'...I've NEVER experienced any panhandling by a Mexican or any other ethnic latino. And always feel much safer on Clark than Sheridan.
sandy-
"In 2004, President Bush signed into law an executive order to accelerate "naturalization during a period of hostility" for those who are serving in the American military. So far, more than 4,000 have become citizens under the new law, but up to 40,000 are eligible."
this article is over a year old. many more have served and dies.
I hate billyjoe, for what it's worth.
Vincent: Re Craig's comments on Mexicans and taxes . . . that's why people break down into guffaws of laughter whenever Gernhardt (or Tom Mannis) refer to themselves as "members of the press" or "journalists."
So if we question your racist assertions then we are in Joe Moore's camp? Hmmmm. Does the readership of your magazine know what a hater you really are? I foresee spreading the word throughout MY community. I've lived in RP for 30 years BECAUSE of it's diversity. The Mexicans on Clark St. were about 10,000 times tamer than your average Irish parade in this city -- which also happens in multiple locations and has support of multiple groups.
anima sola said... "The Mexicans on Clark St. were about 10,000 times tamer than your average Irish parade in this city..."
Parade? Is that what you call it? Where were the permits? Where were the floats?
10,000 times tamer? Any actual proof of this.
I can provide as much anecdotal proof as you have provided as "proof" that the participants on Clark were "illegal." I've been to the South Side Irish "parade," (which may have a permit, but is the most disgusting display of drunken lewdness I have ever witnessed in this city) and I'd rather walk with my children up to Clark than ever set foot there again. Why don't you set up a poll and see who thinks the South Side Irish Parade 1)diverts more police and 2) has more staggering drunks and public lewdness. Enough said.
I'm sorry to see the negativity toward our Hispanic neighbors. By and large I've found the recent immigrant classes, legal or otherwise,in the community to be positive. The only disappointment is that when they achieve a certain level of wealth, they seem to leave for other environs which is too bad.
Somebody get animal sola a Midol.
I am first generation born and my flag is the U.S. flag...screw all the parades
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
