Last night between 8:04 PM and 8:15 PM, two anonymous (cowardly) neighbors called 911 for 'shots fired'. The first anon (cowardly) caller said hearing one shot at 8:04 PM. The anonymous (cowardly) neighbor claimed seeing a male/black running through the alley. At 8:15 PM, an anonymous (cowardly) neighbor called 911 after claiming to hear 4 shots fired near Pratt and Bosworth.
The anonymous (cowardly) caller(s) left no description(s) of the alleged shooter(s) or direction(s) he/she/they may have fled. Nor did the anon (cowardly) callers leave a call back number for further information to help the police in tracking down these alleged shooters. In both cases police gave the "slow-down" upon arriving on scene.

They are not cowards.
If you have to live there, you can't let the cops have your name. They broadcast it so everyone with a scanner can hear it. They have mobile data terminals in the cars, but don't use them for confidential info like the names of complainants.
As one that has had his name announced over the police radio even when I specifically asked to be anonymous, I certainly don't trust the cops to keep my name secret.
What's the issue here? Who do people distrust when remaining annonymous. The crooks or the cops??
Do people really believe that the everyday thugs responsible for 95% of the crime in RP are diligently listening to their scanners?

And if they don't trust the cops, then why even call 911 to begin with...makes no sense. Help me out here folks. Why remain anonymous??
Maybe they choose to remain anonymous out of privacy... maybe they dont want some neighborhood blogger splashing their details in public?
As one who does have a scanner & occasionally listens to Zone 11 radio, I have called on something & within seconds of it be sent out to the cops, the bad guys moved. In a couple of cases I watched them get a phone call & then they left.
Some of the bad guys are listening & making sure that their underlings aren't caught.
I also monitor a scanner, and also know that the 'bad guys' do as well. Time and again I've watched as the 'banger'/corner dealers get a call within seconds of a dispatch and they split. Not giving your name when reporting crime isn't supposed to have any bearing on the police response. In fact, the 911 call taker can see on their screen who is making the call, from what address and what phone # (as long as it's a land line). In a situation where the 'bad guys' are possibly/probably listening to their own scanner it's not a good idea to give your name to be put out on the air!
I love the blog, but Criag, calling them cowards is an asshole move. Chill, dude.
What difference does it make if it's anonymous or they give their name? Does it change the response time of the police?
It lends more credibility to the complaint plain and simple.
If people were not so afraid half the time, we'd accomplish alot more overall.

When a call is being made regarding gang activity and related issues such as drug dealing, many of these guys are very well organized and listening in on scanners. In areas where 'we' the 911 callers are known by the 'bad guys', it is not wise or necessary to give your name for broadcast with the dispatch call. I've been dealing with this 'stuff' for 30+ years and believe me there are good reasons for not giving your name when it involves this kind of criminal activity. If, on the other hand, you're talking about reporting domestic or peace disturbances, fights or theft or damage to property or etc.,etc., then by all means give your name but I don't recommend doing so when dealing with established, organized gang operations as mentioned above. If the cops need to contact you for follow-up, they have the info they need to do so.
Even when a caller wants to leave their name/number sometimes the calltaker will say "it's okay you'll be anonymous" and hang up. Besides why would you want to leave your name, only leave a number at the most. I doubt shitheads listen to the zone 24/7 but it does happen, countersurveillance is common. I find it funny when someone calls 911 about someone with a scanner yet the dispatcher reads the call out over the air. Anyhow, don't trust the mental midget calltakers to keep your info confidential.
FYI, all drug related calls are sent to the Officer via their PDT, not over the air.
Unfortunately, big daddy, that may be what is supposed to happen, but based on my experience (making the 911 drug dealing call and monitoring the dispatch on my scanner) doesn't. That is why I no longer give my name when making such calls.
