Joe Moore Declines to Help City Out of Budget Crisis

All but six of Chicago's 50 aldermen plan to accept a 6.2 percent cost-of-living increase that will boost their annual salaries to $110,556 Jan. 1.

Aldermen John Pope (10th); James Balcer (11th); Scott Waguespack (32nd); Tom Tunney (44th); Helen Shiller (46th), and Mary Ann Smith (48th) are the only aldermen to sign affidavits by a Sept. 15 deadline declaring their intention to forfeit the increase.

Forty-four aldermen declined to sign the affidavit from Budget Director Bennett Johnson, in part, because of the effect it would have on their pensions. Some were offended that Johnson even asked. Source.

Wow, really? Four staff members making $35Gs and up and three making $50,000+? Can't three people do that job? Two? What do they do?

How does that saying go..."Do as I say..Not as I do"

Well little joey moore as well as most of the alderman in our city live their lives by this statement!

They want the people to absorb cuts, take one for the team, but hey not our aldermen, they are to good to take one for the good of the city.

Story from today Trib:

Daley aide, alderman warn of mass layoffs
Posted by Dan Mihalopoulos at 10:49 a.m.

Besides making at least 1,000 layoffs to help balance the city budget, the Daley administration may leave about 3,000 jobs unfilled, a top aide to Mayor Richard Daley said today.

So while the aldermen take their share the people who voted them in will lose their jobs....time to think about who we vote in next time.

By the way Chicago wants the Olympics here! As I said if we get the games we the tax payers will be hit the hidden overruns & other costs that the private funds will not pick up we will be taxed so hard we won't know what end is up!

That man is truly amazing!!! He was the one that stood in front of WalMart so people couldn't get jobs and now he wants his pay increase!!! I can't believe he has all that staff and he makes that much money!!! I can't even get an email ever returned from their office. He and his staff want their wonderful Section 8 and "affordable housing" in our neighborhoods - but I guess it doesn't apply to them! The people that didn't take the increase - hats off to them!! That's why they are such better aldermen than the one we have

Why don't we start by laying off half to two-thirds of our aldermen?

New York City has 51 City Council members, meaning that Chicago has roughly three times the aldermen per capita.

I vote we start with Joe.

Here's what Rick Miller said today in his column. It makes perfect sense in Chicago.

"====One of the most refreshing reform suggestions I’ve heard is to require nonpartisan, computerized legislative redistricting.

Our legislative district maps look like they were drawn by crazy people. They’re all over the place, weaving this way and that for miles on end.

In reality, they are carefully constructed by the powers that be every 10 years to protect their favored incumbents.

Voters don’t choose their politicians, politicians actually choose their voters. As a result, only a small handful of incumbents ever have to face a serious opponent, all courtesy of their leaders who carefully draw the district maps.==="

Dividing the city up into 25 wards without all those zig-saw patterns. That's what we need for change.

razldazlrr, It would be interesting to know what you consider to be "Affordable Housing"?

Come on, all of you!

Don't you realize that Joe now has a WIFE to support? I'm not certain of the types of wedding gifts they receIved in answer to their e-mail announcement (sent awhile back), but surely Barbara might like some new things, don't you think? After all, an alderman has to keep up with the Emil Joneses of the world.

Woe is Joe - Recently divorced......newly married......probably had to refi his home....child support.....taxes......the price of gas that he uses to go from office to home and back...I WONDER....LIVING SO CLOSE TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION both 'el' and Sheridan Road Bus.....Does he drive to City Hall on a daily basis!!!! Tsk! Tsk! What a carbon footprint......At this time I doubt no moore can afford to turn down the raise. Remember that could make him a person of moral character....we already know he ain't!
