Experience Not Necessary

A New Teaching Method

Renaissance 2010, here we come. It's the dawning of a new day in the Chicago Public School system. There's a new curriculum. It's called hypnotism. Or, in layman's terms, turning people into sheeple. Ron Huberman, ex-Rogers Park beat cop, ex-chief of staff to the Mayor, ex-Executive Director, Office of Emergency Management and Communications, ex-CTA President, is now the headmaster for the Chicago Public Schools. The Mayors Jack-of-all-trades, master of none.

If you have been part of the corporate world for the last ten years or so, you know this is the way of the world. A present-day manager can manage anything. He doesn't have to know anything about the area or object being managed. What did Ronnie know about public transportation? And look how that has improved! Remember people. Hope, change, blah, blah, blah.

Move to Wilmette. The school districts in New Trier are much better run and much better funded.

If you review Huberman's History he could be named the slasher!
He cut big salaries and administrative paper in the CTA!
It needs to be done at CPS! The funding that comes to Chicago should go towards improving direct service for students. Instead the history shows the CBOE is top heavy with administrators that don't even know what they are doing! Why do you think there has been such a mass exit of teachers at CPS?
And of course a new breed of young teachers who do nothing but mock anyone with over 10 years of experience. We are the dinosaurs. We are the ones that went without pay many a day in order to right the wrongs done to both teachers and career service. There are teachers today that couldn't make it to school in an ice storm without losing their way. No, I don't know Huberman but I wish him the best - but only time will tell!
In the mean time - I have to get back to class!

Ummm, Made in RP:
While Hubie did change a lot at the Kreusi mismanaged CTA, he also added a whole lot of $100,000+ jobs there.

We are lucky to have this guy. He is effective and genuine. I see him riding the redline all the time. We need to enjoy him before he hits the national arena.

Todd

Yay for your boyfriend. Chicago is blessed, blessed I tells you, to have a super-bureaucrat like Ronnie. Those dreamy eyes. Machismo that burns through your TV screen. Please. Just another future Chicago triple-dipper. Enjoy the ride, Toddly, you're paying for it.

The CTA is a money sucking joke.

The problem though is not the management. The problem is the Unions..

Ever notice all those people in orange and green vests who seem to be waiting for something to do?

He is still pretty young to be applying for pension benefits!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...we should have an ELECTED School Board with officials elected by the PEOPLE/PARENTS and who are responsible to them, or else they lose their jobs in the next election!

How we managed to sit by idly while the Legislature handed our Mayor-for-life the keys to the schoolhouse is beyond me.

Honestly, in my opinion, I don't care who runs the CTA or CPS, just as long as the systems aren't corrupted by these people, and as long as it's ran good.

Actually his salary was increased over Arnie's in return for NOT seeking a COBE pension.
I don't know much about this guy, but as a teacher who has experience in teaching in Michigan and Vermont where there are elected school boards who answer directly to the people, instead of through another politician, therein seem to lay the problem.

I don't know a lot about the Chicago Public Schools from the inside (only what I read) but to bring a guy in that has no demonstrated success in education for the 3rd largest city in the US? That truly doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me.

ALSCB, the issue is that the CTA is not "run good." Have you ridden the Red Line recently? It's a total joke.

What about the Red Line makes it a "total joke"? Almost every day, I get on it, ride it, and arrive at my destination. More quickly and dependably than a few years ago. Joke? I'm not getting it.

Room for improvement? You bet. Total joke? Not.
