Ald. Sharon Dixon (24th) has been arrested early this morning and charged with driving under the influence, police said.
The alleged incident took place in the 6800 block of North Sheridan Road about 1:25 a.m., where police were controlling traffic in connection with a fatal apartment fire.
Dixon also was charged with obstruction of traffic by a motorist and operating a vehicle without proof of insurance. She was in the lockup at the Belmont District headquarters, 2542 W. Belmont Ave., for processing this morning.
While uniformed police officers were blocking traffic with their marked squad cars to facilitate fire equipment access to the scene, Dixon drove up in her personal vehicle and told officers to move their squad car, according to the arrest report, said Police Officer Laura Kubiak. The police car had its emergency lights activated, she added.
When officers asked her to move her own car, she got out and yelled at them, Kubiak said.
At that time, she was cited for obstructing traffic and no proof of insurance.
Dixon got back into her car, but then approached officers again, grabbing the door handle of their squad car and demanding their badge numbers. This time they smelled alcohol on her breath, Kubiak said. Dixon got back in her car and waited for a sargeant.
After he arrived, she again refused an order to leave and was put under arrest, Kubiak said.
Dixon presumably could be released on her own recognizance, another police source said.
She has a March 9 court date.
Dixon's ward is on the West Side. She was elected in 2007.

While the police were trying to do their job, an alleged drunk driver named Sharon Dixon came to Rogers Park and tried the old, Don't you know who I am???" act with the 24th district police.

HaD she been at the Morse Theater, or Heartland Cafe (both close to the place of her arrest)? If she was drunk, someone COULD have taken her keys, or called her a cab?

Having been arrested many times, I can state that I DOUBT Ms Dixon was handcuffed for eight hours. More than likely she was held in a cell where she was NOT handcuffed. Only white people should be handcuffed for hours on end because they cause so much trouble. This all happened because the alderidiot is black and the po-po was white.

Listen, hon, I have a rich, white ex-boyfriend with a massive drinking problem (which is why he is my EX)who got nailed on the Edens a number of years back by a Skokie cop for DUI, when he was weaving down the Edens with his "therapist" (har har) in the car with him. He "only had 2 drinks", he said.
He mouthed off to the cop. Not even if you are Prince Charles or a Bush daughter do you mouth off to a Skokie cop. My ex found out that he was taking his life in his hands doing that. YES YES he was handcuffed, and YES he was helf for 8 hours, and he had a number of other unsavory things done to him.
Oh, yeah,he had to fight like a maniac in court and spend tens of $$$ to get the charges reduced- he did not beat them. He lost his license. He deserved to, and he maybe deserved to be knocked around a little by the arresting officer, for he knew well that he was not a safe driver and risked killing people doing so.
My aunt, a small, timid woman who happened to be white and very affluent, and then in her 50s, was,uh.. manhandled and intimidated by a Manchester MO cop when she got pulled over and nailed DUI with two drinks in her, and she did NOT smart off to the arresting officer.
A number of Affluent White Suburbanites have been handed 40 year prison sentences for killing people while driving drunk.
There is zilch tolerance for drunk drivers these days, and police are pretty damn rude to them all, because the police have to see too many people mangled in car accidents caused by drunks. After a while, you could go stone insane with rage at people who know damn well not to drink and drive, but do it anyway.
I know- my father served a jail term for it. That Dixon creature could have, were she not blasted out of her wits, seen that the police were there for critical reasons, having to do with a fatal fire in the wee hours of the morning that killed one and caused a large number of other residents to have to evacuate in the middle of one of the coldest nights of the year.
Lastly, most people everywhere have had it up to their necks with public officials who think that their excrement does not smell. Our Illinois politicians are under a microscope right now and hopefully forever. I hope this woman gets nailed.
