Belligerent Alderman Arrested for DUI

Abuse of power? It wouldn't be the first time an Alderman has tried to pull this act.
Ald. Sharon Denise Dixon (24th) was arrested and charged with drunken driving and obstructing a police officer when she reportedly refused to obey street closures at the scene of a fatal fire early Wednesday in the North Side’s Rogers Park neighborhood. Dixon, 46, of the 1600 block of South Central Park Avenue, was charged with driving under the influence, obstructing a police officer, obstruction of traffic and operating a vehicle without insurance, according to a police source....
But wait, there's more.
Dixon reportedly began to yell at the officer, then moved her vehicle. She then got out of the vehicle and reportedly circled the police squad car on foot and demanded the officer’s star number, according to the source. A sergeant arrived on the scene and asked her to leave because the street was closed and she was putting herself in danger. Dixon allegedly waited in her car for the sergeant to leave before going back to the scene, according to the source.

What a shame it wasn't Joey!
Unless she had been visiting him at that hour!

Just curious as to why she was so far north of her ward and in that condition so early in the morning (I heard it was around 2 a.m.). Not saying she can't go anywhere she wants, but it just seems weird that she would be in that area, that early and in that condition. Wonder where she was hanging out and with who...

Grandma, do you remember when the 1st African-American president was sworn in?

I assume Moore is in DC pretending he is national this week

I think I figured it out: I'm going to assume she was attending the Inaugural Party at The Morse which is right around the corner. Makes sense.

"Frank Watkins, Dixon's chief of staff, said the alderman was stopped while driving home from a visit with a friend who lives in Evanston."

hmmm

could be Moore

According to the Chicago Police reports, Dixon asked officers to move a marked squad car that had its emergency lights on when she pulled up to the block so that she could get through.

“I am not a power-trip alderman."

Apparently shes not one of Daley's favored drones, so is it likely she'll be booted from her position soon?

Quote of the day....

Sharon Dixon said..... “I wasn’t trying to throw my weight around, I am not a power-trip alderman. Not at all. I just thought it was appropriate to introduce myself.”

I'm guessing it went something like this... "You know who I am? I the Alderman and I'll have your badge for this."

Hi, I'm Alderman Sharon Dixon. I realized you're trying to battle a fire and provide the necessary police support so the fire department can do their job and prevent any more deaths in this tragedy, but I just wanted to say 'hi'. So... read any good books lately?"

How about an "ata boy" for the Police.

Doing the correct thing and not buckling to "clout".

Good Job Officers!

OK - I don't get it - Moore lives in Evanston and he's the Alderman here??? Explain please......

Kudos to the police for not taking the Alderman's shit! According to her - result of a "huge misunderstanding" with police. That's a good one!!!

Can you imagine having drinks and getting out of the car to yell at the police?? I would see the lights and be heading in any direction but towards them! LOL

Yeah she misunderstood about the police not cutting her slack.

"Cutting an alderman slack" is no longer an option in 2009. There is too much at stake here, folks. Like your lives, as vibrant, hard-working citizens?

Start by thinking, "WHO AM I?".

Next, "WHAT CAN I DO?"

And then, "WHERE DO I LIVE, AND HOW CAN I MAKE IT BETTER?".

If this is not your personal agenda for 2009-10, then GO EAT PASTE!

God forbid Alderman Dixon's home be ablaze, and someone distracts the police from their task.

Joe Moore does not live in Evanston. He lives in RP on Fargo. We can call Joe a lot of things but he is an actual resident of the ward (when he's not hobnobbing in DC). He grew up in Evanston. Facts are a good thing and can easily be verified. And let's not pin some drunk driving south side aldermonster on Joe. It minimizes the real complaints toward him.

Moore is a property owner in the ward

Amy R said...

Property owner does not = resident. The house on Fargo is dark almost every time I go by which is at least once a day.

Razldazlrr said...

Agreed - property owner does definitely not mean someone is a resident. So where does our Alderman actually "reside"? This should be some important info for the next election

1/20/2011 update - she's suing the city for wrongful arrest! Unbelievable.
