* Rogers Park wine lovers just can't stay away from Taste Food and Wine, even on an evening when it's 4 degrees outside. The most stoic turned out for the free weekly wine tasting last Friday, maybe because 4 degrees felt like 60 after three days of 15-below-zero temperatures.Blognotes: This will give those anonymous 'Broken Heart' hate-bloggers something to talk about. With all the crap I receive from Joe Moore and his slimy band of skanks, a comment like this to a neighborhood newspaper reporter makes up for all of that. I'd like to thank Ms. Carter for recognizing the real effort that goes on behind this blog.
* "It's not the usual crowd," says Taste co-owner Sandra Carter. "Fridays and Mondays it's a meet-and-greet here. People meet here to socialize and taste the wine." Since the store opened on Halloween in 2007, neighborhood residents have embraced the small shop in trendy Jarvis Square that is run in tag-team fashion by its six, wine-loving owners, all of whom have regular day jobs.
* Despite the flagging economy, Carter says business has been good. When burglars busted the shop's windows in early 2008, neighborhood bloggers rallied residents to support the owners, who have staged events for the neighborhood's non-profit groups.

Blogger Rallies Neighbors to Support Local Business
Who says us Rogers Park bloggers are do-nothings. Here's what one good business owner thinks.

thanks for the info - I'm definitely going to check their shop out - I love my wine!
I will go to Taste for future wine purchases.
Shame not to patronize fine neighbohood businesses, and this is one of the finest.
Been there a bunch of times now, even walked in on a wine tasting on Friday during the summer. Cool place.
Taste is an absolute gem for our community. The owners are so very nice and extremely helpful when it comes to selecting from their impressive inventory.
I've been in a few times, and they always remember what kinds of wine I like and are quick to point out something new that I might like to try.
If you will pardon a brief bit of negativity, it us my understanding that these guys almost didn't get to open because Joe Moore regarded them as Gordon supporters during the last election. And we all know how childishly vindictive our little alderboy can be.
Luckily, they opened in spite of Joe's crap. Of course we also know Joe will eventually take credit for bringing this business to Rogers Park.
===And we all know how childishly vindictive our little alderboy can be.===
Heck yes. First hand. Too many times to count.
My only question is, after watching this act for years and years, will his children inherit this ugly trait?
You people make me sick. Your precious Taste Food & Wine gets a broken window and you piss all over yourselves with pity. When Soo Liquors gets a broken window you act like hyenas at a zebra corpse, all ready to take your own bite out of dying flesh. Is it because Soo Liqours is not run by white people? I think it is. Soo Liquors is being harassed by the thugs, the police, and by Joe Moore and his gang of stupid goons.
Soo Liquors have tried their best to beat back the gangbangers at risk to their own lives because Moore has blamed THEM for the shithole that is Morse Ave. And where are you? Supporting this Morse Avenue business? NO!! You are skipping off to Jarvis to slurp free wine.
What a bunch of cowards and morons.
Stupid white people!!
Rachael...
You make some very good points that I believe are worth discussing. Unfortunately, they are pretty much negated by your own filthy racism.
And I should point out that I have no idea who owns Soo Liquors, let alone that person's heritage.
Please, Rachael, keep your evil bigotry to yourself.
Um like DUH!!! Of course were gonna have more sympathy if Taste is vandalized. Soo breeds and feeds on the worst elements of RP as my first and LAST time at Soo involved passing a gauntlet of drunken low-lifes asking $$ for "FOOD". I was wondering how long it would take for the race-baiters to engage in some good-old-fashioned false-equivalency. It's NOT a matter of what race tends to frequent a business establishment but rather how that business affects the community.
Heh, Rachael "Slur," how appropriately named.
People, it's called "baiting". "Rachel Slur" cares nothing about Soo Liquors. She/He has been to various sites yammering the same line. It's an act. Trust me.
Being drunk behind the wheel of a vehicle is unattractive and stupid, Ms. Slur -- no matter what race a person is.
Wow. One little thing that only implies a mention of your blog in an article about a wine shop that focuses on the wine shop and all of your negativity is erased. Huzzah!
And BTW, stupid name or not, Rachel Slur is exactly right.
Rachael and Yahoo: Maybe you fools shouldn't make assumptions about the race of others writing here.
Racheal slur
is inaccurate
about that bit about dying flesh especially if the zebra is dead. If the zebra was still breathing a little then its dying flesh, but if the corpse is really a corpse then its dead,
unless we are talking about zombie zebras here. Holy Christ, we are in some deep trouble if we are talking about zombie zebras....
btw i like your name
I just stopped at Taste on my walk home from the train this evening. We truly love this shop, and pretty much only buy wine there, and their other snacky/cheesy offerings are great too!
FYI - Steve (another co-owner) mentioned to me this afternoon that they're having a special tasting on Saturday 4-6pm, of Scotches. Debbie's making some haggis to share, and there will even be a piper. Stop on by if you're in the area!
Soo Liquors blows
yahoo blows
Rachel blows
Joe Moore blows
Sammys blows
yahoo blows some more
been there really blows
OMG! Another wine tasting? Praise Craig for making it happen!
if people want to call me a racist for ripping on a sleazy liquor store that sells a product specifically designed to clean crack pipes...then i guess that's their prerogative.
What pipe-cleaning product is this? Does it have another use or only one?
MOTS:
well, it ain't called "Krak-Away", and i take back my phrase "specifically designed to clean crack pipes", but it's a cleaning agent that IS specifically designed for the baked-on-caked-on glassware. Now why the heck would a fine, upstanding member of our business community sell such a product in such a location? I believe I first heard about it being sold here, how they took it off the shelves, and then how it reappeared. Correct me Craig if I'm wrong. (and if I am, feel free to delete post)

Something I always think of buying at liquor stores. I like to have a beer or two while I scrub my pots and pans!
Lansky...
LOL. Yeah I guess the presence of glass bakeware cleaner in a tiny liquor store would be rather suspect. Like finding beluga cavier there... WTF?
Checked out taste over the weekend...
One senses that the ownership love what they are doing. I'll be back.
I value this kind of topic.
yep - not often I stop in for a bottle of wine and a little chore-boy! You can easily see what that store is all about.
