Hey, Alderman! Congrats on the Raise!

February 11, 2009. The city coffers are in the septic tank. Massive budget shortfalls. The city is cutting services to the bone. People are losing their jobs. But no worries, mate.

Joe Moore gets $110,556.00/year!

Aldermen & Staffs Buck National Trend

FedEx: -5 to -20%
Motorola: -25%
Morgan Stanley: -65% to -75%

Chicago Alderman: +6.2%!!
Aldermanic Staff: +5%!

Crisis? What crisis?

If you see your alderman or a staff person around the neighborhood, don't forget to congratulate them on their latest raise!

Does that mean the real estate developers also have to cough up 6.2% more for their zoning variances?

RogersParking,

When the Alderman has so much push specifically in Zoning and Landmark designation ... the answer is probably yes.

Craig, why don't you run for alderman?

It's just so absolutely disgusting!!! He makes that much money and does so little. Yep - if he worked in the private sector and had to provide actual RESULTS - he would have been fired.

How about this;
1. Term limits. 2, maybe 3 terms max.
2. A recall provision.
3. If charged with a crime, suspension of all pay and benefits other than healtcare.
4. If convicted, a revocation of any and all future benefits, and a complete repayment of all previous pay and benefits.
5. All pay/benefit increases to be put to a referendum vote.
6. A complete reworking of the current pay/benefit schedule for all public employees. The goals to get public sector pay scales back in line with current realities, to eliminate pension shenanigans where people work the system to artificially increase their pensions payouts based on BS promotions and other pension increasing games in the last two years before retirement.

President Obama rightly criticized Wall Street bonuses given at banks that are accepting taxpayer money.

I see an ugly parallel here..

You people are idiots! We can vote politians out whenever elections come around. BUT WE DON'T! So shut the fuck up about term limits. If you don't like Joe Moron as your alder-idiot, then vote him out next time.

I bet that next time Joe Moron will run on the coattails of your hero Barak Nobama, just like he ran against Bush last time. And you idiots will fall for it again.
You people make me sick!

Chicago ranks third on the list of America's most miserable cities according to Forbes magazine. High rates of corruption by public officials didn't help either.

Sudo, why do I somehow not feel miserable?

I'd like to ask Forbes just what criteria they used, and if they included cities like Detroit, St. Louis, Camden, Newark, New Orleans, or Albany in the study. Or dozens of other places of 300,00 pop or more whose denizens wish they had our problems.

But, perhaps, the article will put a needle in our mayor's fat behind. If it plants doubts in our mayor's lard-encrusted little brain about the way this city is run financially and about all his monument-building and vanity programs, and what they are taking away from necessities, maybe it will be worth it. Chicago is nowhere near the most miserable place YET, but if our mayor is permitted to continue on his program of ever bigger expenditures on vanity projects while shrinking the tax base throug TIFS and robbing basic service of needed funding and manpower, we will be.

The 2016 being Daley's ultimate vanity project. God help us.
