Police Call For Back-up at Sullivan (Update)

12:13 PM: All hell is breaking loose at Sullivan Fight School. You can hear the screaming and yelling drowning out the officers voice over the police radio. A major school brawl just broke out on the first floor. School security is overwhelmed with the chaos these unruly and violent students are causing. Chicago Police are calling for back-up.

Update: Three fight school rowdies are being taken to the poky for unsportsmanlike conduct.

After all the coverage and firsthand insight from Timmy, I still don't understand what they're fighting over on a daily basis. Is it gang related?

I hope Timmy's alright. The unruly crowd noise indicated chaos.

I'm not sure if any of the three taken in were Insane Cutthroat Gangsters (ICG).

I'm finally home and I'm just fine, everyone :-). Thanks for checking up on me, guys.

I witnessed this brawl happen. I was coming out of my classroom to head to gym when all these kids come out of nowhere and start fighting with each other in front of the MAIN OFFICE (of all places to fight). My teachers forced me and my peers to go up the east side stairs since the west side was COMPLETEY blocked by the brawl.

I'm told that multiple people were arrested and I saw at least two kids being hauled away by police.

Perhaps they fight because they KNOW they can pull it off. Each "fighter" gains a certain notoriety.

Perhaps it's a "gang thang".

These children have NOT been taught how to live within societal parameters. Where should the blame be placed for these "eruptions of ego"?

On their parent(s), of course. If Dr. Artia at Sullivan does not "haul in" each and every parent of these offenders/gang pretenders, then he is remiss in his duties in enforcing the Student Code of Conduct in a Chicago Public School.

This fighting is in violation of the rules as stated in Groups 1-5, and could inherently become a violation of Group 6.

How to determine when 'ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" ('BASTA E BASTA!'--it is the same in Italian and Spanish)?

That is up to Dr. Artia, and the soon-to-depart Arne Duncan.

Gentlemen--MAKE IT HAPPEN NOW! Mr. Duncan: Before you leave Chicago, please address the "gang-fighting" situation in the schools you seem sooooo happy to leave behind!

Grammer Gal has said it all! Implement the Uniform Code of Conduct (AKA) Uniform Discipline Code And this ind of activity
will cease
Then the students who really want to learn and be successful can and the rest can be removed to Alternative Safe Schiis and find out what one on one guidance is like
The parents as well will need to come and pick the students up every time they tangle.
Parents who work get real tired of this real fast and my experience is the students change their behavior! It is awesome what structure and guidance can offer

It seems you hit on something there, MIRP.

The school should detain all students involved, call the parents, and have someone in command remain until every last rule-breaker is picked up and taken home.

After all, the PARENT(S) are responsible for their minor children.

Those rule-breakers who are above age 18 should be hauled in and booked. Let their parent(s) BAIL THEM OUT!

Anyone ever hear of TOUGH LOVE? It is still love, but with an appreciation for DISCIPLNE, a sorely-needed trait these days!

Yep - it's time to worry about the kids who aren't doing anything wrong

Alot of opinions here, I wonder how many are based on experience. Your only chance to reach your kids is when they are younger, and even then they may stray in the teen years. These kids will not be reached by their parents at this point. The school should hold them accountable and move them out if necessary. What kind of discipline do you put on a kid who walks out the door when you are "disciplining" them? You can't kick them out, you can't deny them food and shelter, and some kids don't want anything more than that. When there is nothing to take away, you can't reach them.

I hope everyone is safe at Sullivan today, I live in the neighborhood.
