Armed Robber Strikes in the 49th Ward

6:39 AM: This morning commuters heading to the Rogers Park Metra Station are on edge as a pair of robbers, one armed with a alleged knife, robbed a male of his cell phone, watch and $100 USC. The alleged knife robbery happened at the corner of Lunt and Clark just before the crack of dawn. The offenders headed east on Lunt to Paulina, then north. Nothing further at this time.

7:23 AM: There's an alleged high-rise jumper. A 911 caller says someone leaped from the building at 1040 West Granville.

7:29 AM: Police have a much better description of these two thug robbers from Lunt and Clark. One is a male. One is a female. They're still on the loose at this moment.

7:58 AM: The police are focusing their high-rise leaper investigation on the 10th floor of 1040 West Granville at the moment. Dispatch is asking for a victim ID. I placed a call to the Edgewater Athletic Club and the receptionist didn't deny someone had jumped. When I asked if this incident had effected business, the caller said they were still open.

8:00 AM: Purse snatching at 7036 North Clark Street. This is the same area as the Rogers Park Metra station.

4:47 PM: Todays "Howard Street Initiative" event number is #06744.

5:31 PM: We've got a new "Howard Street Initiative" event number. It's #13144.

I just love how the Alderman's office wants to quote stats about how crime is down in this area!! I guess they think because a few less have been reported up here, it's all fine and dandy. I bet they would think differently if they were robbed on the street, or in their home!!

Relax. Crime is DOWN! If you don't believe me, come to the beat 2431 CAPS meeting. The handsome Kevin, the pretty Jane, the lovely Rene, and maybe even a sassy Joe-Blow rep will tell you so.

If I'm not mistaken, someone was threatening to jump from the building directly across the street from the one that houses the athletic club about two or three years ago. Can't remember if they actually did it, but strange coincidence.

What do they care?
One of their own, somebody that works in his Ward office, was mugged/strong arm robbery/purse jacked a block from the office a month or so ago.
Joe himself was involved in another purse jacking last year. The perp "got away".

I'm surprised you have nothing on the fight that broke out today at Sullivan. I'll have a little more on it on my post tomorrow.

Timmy,
He's too busy blogging about the Super Bowl and the now-former governor to care about what's actually happening in Rogers Park.

What's with all of the early morning crimes? I read your other post about the kidnapping on Sheridan at 6am and I still recall hearing the shots at Morse and Lakewood last fall at 5:45am.

It sucks- shootings, robberies, kidnapping AND people throwing themselves off buildings- I'd rather sleep in!!! Note to self: don't leave the house until 9 or 10...

The early bird gets the worm. In this case, rob the victim before someone else robs the victim and there's nothing to rob.

Lead by example. Joe never filed a police report.

Joe's own chief of staff, Betsy Vanderkook, got robbed 2 days before Christmas. Instead of alerting the community, Joe tried to have this crime covered up.

You've got to be pretty gullible to believe these putzes. Really now, that's one sad group of liars. They all deserve each other.

That, Craig, is a truly SAD commentary re: the 024 CAPS program.

When the representatives are NOT REPRESENTATIVES, that is the problem. MOUTHPIECES for the mayor do NOT represent the 024's feelings, on ANY matter. Yet, here in the 024, we cannot take coppers "off the streeet" to spend time at CAPS meetings.

I suggest we ask Joe Moore, our marvelous ALD., to come up with a solution. C'mon, Craig, don't you think he'll send out a POOF? Even though his position is pretty much "in the toilet" right now?

And, if Joe Moore won't respond, lets get Weis (on his way out) and Daley (probably on his way out)to come up here?
