Joe Moore Saves the Day

Management Team, Investors Confident Morse Theater Will Remain Open

Dear Neighbor,

You may have read a press report last Friday that the Morse Theater, which opened to rave reviews just four months ago, may close its doors temporarily due to a dispute between the theater's principal investor and the management team that operates the theater and its restaurant, the Century Public House.

I have been in regular communication with both sides since I first learned of the dispute early last week, and have urged them to resolve their differences. The Morse Theater has fast become a favorite destination for music fans from across the Midwest and the linchpin to the revitalization of Morse Avenue.

The Morse plays host to an eclectic mix of some of the top musicians and bands in the nation, and while the economic recession has hurt attendance at most music venues, the Morse is usually at or near capacity. It would be a shame to lose all the wonderful momentum for positive change that the Morse Theater has generated in Rogers Park. That is why I have offered either to mediate the dispute between the parties or identify another neutral third party who could help resolve their differences without litigation.

I am optimistic a satisfactory resolution of the dispute can be achieved. Both parties are very aware of the important role the theater plays in the revitalization of Morse Avenue and Rogers Park, and both have told me they are confident the theater will remain open.

In the meantime, I urge you to demonstrate your support for both the Morse Theater and the Century Public House by taking in a show and/or a bite to eat.

I will continue to keep you informed of any new developments.

Sincerely,

Joe Moore

That guy sure knows how to take credit where credit is not due.

How would Joe know? Is he an "investor" with access to the books?

For what? Campaign contributions?

How much in campaign contributions is this going to cost them?

In this economy, not many of us have the money to spend like you do.

We can all sleep better tonight knowing this.

Gee, what about the Gregory and Matthew at the Morseland?

Or the John and Ruth at the Common Cup?

Reside on Morse? Did you forget about them?

Grill Inn?

Washington Mutual?

What about them?

Offered to mediate the dispute? Why? Is there some sort of foie gras issue at hand?

Well, who wouldn't accept an offer of mediation from the guy who is laughed at in City Hall?

Joe Moore mediation skills at work.

I am not a huge fan of Joe Moore but it seems like you guys and gals won't let the guy breathe. I can bet any money that the next Alderman wether he does good or bad will get the same results from you people.

Anywhooodiehooo, I am buying my tickets for Carnival Celebration this weekend.

Uhh, who would be the better mediator in any dispute: Joe Moore or Craig Gernhardt?

That question ain't hard to answer whatsoever: Joe Moore. At least he doesn't spend his waking hours in front of his computer screen, shooting from the hip.

YourChicagoFriend said...

I also offer my mediation skills to all parties involved.

(I better send out an email blast so everyone knows I'm here to save the day! Oooh! Better put my cape on, too!)

I agree with RP30. This is--at least not yet--about anyone taking undue credit for anything. It's about a local community leader offering to help find a solution to a local community dispute. At least let the guy try before you castigate him.

Such reflexive negativity.

I guess you missed all the "I's" in Joe Moore's email poof? Let me help you out.

Joe Moore mentioned the word "I" six times in six paragraphs. If it's not all about him, he sure has a strange way of forcing this self-promotion onto people.

I have some yahoo named Yahoo who leaves these silly pro-Joe comments by the dozens. They all are the same crap. I suck. Joe's great. Blah, blah, blah.

Funny this ip address always appears at the time of the comments.

Host Name: city-of-chicago-filter2.illinois.net
IP Address: 207.63.100.163

Coincidence?

Someone should spend less time on city of chicago computers leaving these comments -- and more time actually working.

I believe people simply tire of Joe never attending to the crucial issues in his ward, but constantly grandstanding as a way to somehow attract positive attention.

This email blast from Joe offers no new information; it says the two parties are already working things out, yet Joe has to grandstand by saying he has personally offered to mediate the situation.

It doesn't mean anyone is interested in using him as a mediator, and, frankly, I can't begin to imagine any measure by which Joe is qualified.

Think about it: Joe has never run a business, lives off the donations of others, is perpetually laughed at in City Hall and, to the best of my knowledge, has never mediated anything!

Yet here's Joe once again suggesting he speaks for the parties involved and is in control of the situation.

He does it all the time. He took credit for the fire house that the city built as part of a city-wide effort. He took credit for the park building that a hard working neighborhood group made happen. He took credit for a Morse Ave. streetscape that never even happened.

Sorry to those who see all of this as too negative. People are just tired of Joe's crap.

Yeah. Where's the Morse Streetscape?

I heart the R.P. said...

I'm with RP30 on this one. You are all always bitching about Moore never getting involved with his ward, and now when he has stepped up to do so, you blast him. I am taking a wait and see attitude on this one.

Craig Gernhardt said...

Yeah, that's it. Let's sit around and wait for Joe to work his magic.

Like the Morse Avenue Streetscape.

SUCKERS!

Craig Gernhardt said...

Selective mediation. What about this?

Razldazlrr said...

It would be different if Joe actually did something and made a difference. He likes to talk about everything and make a splash but there's no action! What could he possibly be doing to mediate between investors and management? please.... Although, Joe - I'm all for the streetscape - when is it coming again?

I heart the R.P. said...

I've heard the Street Scape is scheduled for late summer. I think they had to change the date of the Glenwood Arts Fest because of the construction.

I heart the R.P. said...

You may be right about me being a sucker. Sucker or incurable optimist?

Craig Gernhardt said...

===I've heard the Street Scape is scheduled for late summer.===

Did you hear this in 2006?

Or 2007?

Or was it 2008?

Because I heard the same damn thing each one of those years too.

mcl said...

Don't forget, as far back as 10-12 years ago the Alderman and DevCorp announced that Howard Street was to
undergo 'streetscape' improvements! Serious amounts of tax dollars were spent by DevvCorp on the planning and design of this. We're still waiting.

Had the Alderman written such a note before the problem was solved I would be quite impressed.

As is, it feels more like he's just using it to score a few points.

He is not a leader. He is a politician.

I would like to be "Bi Partisan" and just help the theatre, period. I don't care about anything else.

As another storefront owner in RoPa, we all should come together as a community and do the right thing and go enjoy a show.

Damn it I tried to go eat here tonight and It's still closed. WTF!!

Craig Gernhardt said...

I too went there to grab a bite to eat last night to help them out like Joe Moore told us to do. But the Morse was closed on Tuesday night. Last time I listen to that fool.

Razldazlrr said...

I absolutely want the theatre but I find it odd that there is no sign on the door, no information on their website etc. Is that the way you treat customers that you want to come back when you reopen???

Razldazlrr said...

But.......does anyone have the scoop on what happened and why they are closed?

Craig Gernhardt said...

According to their website, they say they are open from 11:00 AM to Midnight, Tuesday to Friday.

5:00 PM to Midnight on Saturday.

10:00 AM to Midnight on Sunday.

Last night, (Tuesday) they were not open.

mugged neighbor said...

It's open for a few more shows that were already scheduled. The restaurant will only be open on those nights and the next couple of Sunday brunches.

No show... no open.

Craig Gernhardt said...

===I will continue to keep you informed of any new developments.===

Yeah, right. Another Joe Moore lie.

If he was telling the truth, he would've let us know the Century Public House isn't serving food unless there is a show. This guy is no better than Roland Burris.
