Oh to be in Kevlar, now that summer is here! Oh wait, it's only spring. Is someone having a sale on bullets?
Ouch. I feel bad for those two people. Hope they'll be ok.
Heard two gunshots last night as I was turning in for bed. I'm on the Lakewood side of 1225 Morse. Second person to be shot on our block this year.
The intersection of Jonquil Terrace and Ashland was quite busy last night around 9:30 pm. Cars were forced to park in front of the fireplug and in the alley while the drivers ran to the local drug house to get their party supplies. I'm not surprised there was a disturbance at the Jonquil Hotel later. Crowds, sometimes as large as 40 to 50 people, gather there repeatedly. When you call 911, they simply move across the street or go inside until the police pull away.
You would think since we are always talking about the same buildings as problems the alderman or someone from his staff would contact the problem landlords and work with them to help clean this up.
I guess since it's not in the aldermans face he doesn't care, and the landlords are laughing all the way to the bank with the money they collect for these problem buildings.

Maybe we should rename it the "Swine Flu Hotel?" That should get Joe's attention.
The Jonquil Hotel is and has been owned and operated by Rev. Bud Ogle and his 'Good News Partners' for 25+ years. Talk to any long time resident NoH and they will confirm the problems and issues that have constantly spilled out into the neighborhood from this property. IMO the city needs to send a 'task force' into the property to inspect, top to bottom, unit by unit, looking for fire safety, occupancy and code violations. Many NoH residents have complained for years about the building's operation and it's negative impact on the community. The Alderman has just as consistently turned a 'blind eye' to the situation.

How's that going for you?
A large gang fight just broke out on your 12:09am item. Location of the fight is Lawrence and Troy. The cops are saying that'll be an active area all night.
I really don't understand it either - WHY does the Alderman not take charge and shake things up? Why does he let these buildings continue to exist? WHY does he care more about WalMart and goose liver than the safety of the people he was elected to protect??? Is it only the stuff that brings in the news cameras that interests him??? I am not used to living in an area where there are gunshots and crime - I definitely do not like it.

Kevlar? Unless you're a police officer you're not allowed to wear body armor in the Socialist State of Illinois. Incredible, but true: Civilians here are not allowed to protect themselves with body armor. Simple tasers and stunguns are also not allowed. And needless to say, only the police and the criminals are allowed to protect themselves with handguns.
