Two pedestrians were killed Monday night by a hit-and-run vehicle in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, Chicago police said this morning. The vehicle later was found abandoned a few blocks away. The crash happened about 10:35 p.m. in the 6400 block of North Western Avenue, said Police Officer David Banks.

I am surprised this hasn't happened more often. I just saw the top of the 11:00 hour news interview on channel 7. They interview a resident who speaks the truth. Those red light cameras make people rush through the intersection. The lights are timed to make money and people know it so they rush. We can't afford these tickets. This has been going on for years at Peterson and Western. It is very unfortunate but the city won't change a thing.
Something has changed drastically in this country in the past 15 years or so.
Hit-and-run accidents used to be rare, and the penalty was severe.
Now, this has become disturbingly commonplace. I witnessed two separate pedestrian collisions near the Dominick's in Edgewater, on Broadway, and the driver fled the scene in both cases. It now seems that almost every pedestrian strike is a hit-and-run.
What has happened to people? This seems to be increasing in lockstep with road rage explosions on suburban highways, like the one in the north suburbs where one motorist chased another down, disabled his vehicle, hit the guy as he was changing his tire, then shot him twice
We need to hike the penalties for hit-and-run, up to at least 20 years in the slam. If this guy had stopped his car and tended to the injured people, he might have been able to give an explanation that might have cleared him, for he did have a green light after all. But now he is in deep trouble. I hope he gets the max penalty for this.
Man Fatally Struck By Cab in Edgewater too.
I wish this piece of s$&@ would get life! if you can't afford the tickets, then a) you can't afford to drive and, or b) don't run lights and slow the f$&@ down!
Yep - that explanation by the guy didn't make a lot of sense - then just stop at the light and you won't get a ticket! I don't trust drivers at all - I always give them the right of way, afraid of being run over.
Chicago & Leslie - are you referring to a different accident? I didn't see reference to someone running a light or providing an explanation...
Anyway, saw an article that a 19 year old turned himself in to police.
