Street Fight on Morse/Pay-to-Park

Two for One Blog:

2:47 PM: Multiple 911 callers say there's a large fight that's taking place at Morse Avenue at Clark Street. Police arrive and say nothing out of the normal is going on, making it a 19-Adam.

Other Ward News. Joe Moore email poof: Three weeks ago, Joe Moore informed you of a Chicago Park District proposal to charge for overnight parking at the Loyola Park and Leone Park parking lots at the rate of 25 cents an hour, which would result in a cost to neighborhood residents of over $100.00 a month to park overnight in an uncovered PUBLICLY OWNED parking lot. Sorry folks, there's nothing Joe Moore can do about it.

I saw his email blast for his bus to the Park District meeting - I thought - what a waste of time. Why doesn't he work on these things before they happen? It's a done deal now. I'm guessing it's another way he thinks he can get his face on the news as being a "good guy" "for the people" etc etc

This is nothing more than a publicity stunt. Joe Moore is calling for his kool-aid drinking, puppets to join him.

Street parking will get even tighter as people avoid parking in that lot over night.

You will have to park even further from your home late at night and walk through Joe's gang infested streets.

This is a serious public safety issue.

I'm not in the business of building/managing parking garages, but it seems to me it would be a very lucrative venture and an asset to the community to pop one up along morse between the L and Sheridan (or perhaps dig one down under the park). Something like the city of Evanston operates on Davis Street would not only ease street congestion, it would also give an incredible boost to the business community. Affordable hourly rates plus ability to lease on a monthly basis (Evanston charges roughly $1/hr & $85/month) would solve a lot of problems.

We might have to sacrifice one of those sketchy mini-malls or dollar stores for the space, but I'm sure we would eventually learn to do without them.

But that's the whole point - the people don't want to pay to park there. So a parking garage won't do a lot of good. It seems like paying to park your car is just one of the expenses of owning a car in crowded areas of the city. They are probably lucky they have parked for free as long as they have.

Boo-fucking-Hoo. Shut up and pay.
Lots of us rent a garage or a space in a private lot. You are not entitled to free parking.

Nobody's entitled to free parking. If you can't pay, don't own a car, that simple.

For people whose jobs take them to suburban areas far from rail access, you might just want to take your car and park it at the Metra station nearest your office, and use it to travel between work and the station, then take the train back down to your home in the city.
