Let's just hope Mayor Daley doesn't make it about him. I hope he realizes the REAL point of this march, which is for the COMMUNITY.
Funny thing about this is that ... well, Joe's name isn't on the list. I'm taking that he's not attending.
@ALSCB
He's suppose to be at the dedication ceremony for the rooftop farm at Uncommon Ground at 10:30 so I don't think he'll have enough time to "make it about him."
Good luck with your march.
Yeah- where is joe moore? I am all for this march - bring some community to tgis neighborhood. it is about time we have some leadership stand up and actually adress these issues rather than create smoke screen issues like foi gras pig swine and solar panel garbage cans. I like mayor daley and I am glad he is focussing some attention on us- o'connor but no moore? What's going on?
It's all happening in the 40th Ward, so little Joey is staying out of O'Connor's way.
But I'm guessing that King Richie will also make a pitch for the Olympics on Saturday!
These stupid pr walks don't reduce crime.
If the mayor were serious about reducing crime he'd give the police a decent contract.
If the mayor was serous about reducing crime he'd train and hire more police officers to work the streets.
If the mayor were serious about reducing crime he'd give the police the proper equipment to work with.
Beat officer morale is down. These three gestures would greatly reduce crime.
Hey, Mayor, police cameras aren't the answer. Marches aren't either. Start focusing on the real issue. Our police department needs to be beefed up. They're outmanned and outgunned.
Craig, I agree with you on each and every point!
===I'm guessing that King Richie will also make a pitch for the Olympics on Saturday!===
I'm racing this weekend, I'm too far away... but if I were there, and the mayor started yapping about the olympics, I'd surely shout him down. You can bet your bottom dollar I would.
I sure hope one of my neighbors has the courage to do the same.
Signs to bring if you're going to the dog & pony show this morning....
"We Need Foot & Bike Patrols in Rogers Park!"
"Less Marches... More Action!"
"Give the Police A Contract!"
Anyone going? I could use a reporter.
joe's email ends with "look forward to seeing you" so i assume he will be there. maybe a few of you keyboard commandoes should show up and speak to the man's face.
Maybe been there would like to speak to my ass. As if anybody's afraid of Joey...
I used to sit back and watch these little marches. It amazed me to watch the citizens get all excited because "the Mayor was going to be here". It reminded me of the white man coming to America, giving the Indian a couple of cheap plastic trinkets in exchange for thousands of acres of land. Today the Mayor shows up, donates about thirty minutes of his time and everybody is happy. Never mind that it's all smoke and mirrors. The Mayor will get back into his car and leave and the area where he just left will remain the same. In other words, he bought off the common folks with his mere appearance just like the white man bought of the Indians with a trinket. But hey, if it gives them hope and get's him a few votes and everybody is fooled, why not.
Craig, thanks for the show of support. Here are some of the signs or changes I'd like to see-
Get rid of CAPS, it's a waste of money-Put those Officers on the streets where they belong
Stop all the special mission teams and TRU- nothing but hiding places for the connected
Let the Police be the Police again
Stop throwing your Officers under the bus- (In honor of Bill Cozzi)
Create a decent computer system so the Officers aren't working on a system built in 1810
Stop cowtowing to the reverends and any other special interest group with an agenda contrary to the needs and wishes of the community
Just a start
That's a good thing, MrBrownThumb. I was saying what I said because this is for the residents of Rogers Park (not including me because I don't live in RP, though I attend Sullivan, so it does include me a bit), not him.
I hope everyone at the march this morning is making their message heard.
Oh, and Craig, if you want, I could tell some of the people who attended to email me their observations and I could make a post for you, since you're not in Chicago today.
Been There,
Didnt see you there?
Big Daddy, when you talk about stopping the special missions, do you mean for things like extra patrols in a violent area and things related to that? If so, I think we need those to try to keep things under controls in the neighborhoods that have them.
But I do really agree that CAPS (well, except for the Beat meetings) should get ridden of and that there should be a decent computer system.
All of the City brass were there, which is a lot more than I can say about most of you people. To those of you who bitch and moan and nothing else, shame on you.
Along with the Mayor, Jody Weis, our current police commissioner, Moore and others were present. O'Connor ran the show.
There was no talk of the Olympics, although there were some anti- Olympics demonstrators with signs.
I met and spoke with Barton Moy, Area 2 coordinator for CAPS Implementation Office and told him I stopped going to the CAPS meetings because the police are condescending, throw all responsibility back on the citizens and that the meetings are a waste of time. He seemed receptive to my point of view.
It was positive to see all of the big shots marching (unlike Jessie Jackson at the rally a few weeks back, who showed up for the TV cameras and rode off) with so many people from the community.
Another highlight was the Steel Drum entertainment from the kids at Sullivan. Along with Timmy, there are some good kids that attend Sullivan.
Ceasefire passes out T-shirts, caps, and Neighborhood Watch sign...all also good in my opion.
IHTRP, was there any media (TV) there?
CORRECTION: Barton Moy is Area 3 Coordinator.
Media: Channel 2, 7, and a few other smaller stations.
No Timmy, I don't mean extra patrols in areas that need them. THAT is an excellent idea, one that I support but seems to have been forgotten. I mean gun teams, burglary teams, robbery teams etc.
I agree with you about CAPS. Sitting down with the community in a non-confrontaional manner to get their input IMHO, is a good idea. But CAPS has become much more than that. It has grown into a cottage industry. It employs the otherwise unemployable. It has become nothing more than a political tool for the Mayor. It no longer serves any useful purpose other than to create jobs for those that are connected. Just my opinion.
nope. i wasn't there. i think it was a dog and pony show. i like daley, but it doesn't make me wet to be close to him.
i was home doing my chores.
I agree with you on those teams. I find them pointless as well. It's like this to me: a robbery and burglary will happen anywhere, so why make a team dedicated to it? LOL. I'd rather have an "anti-violence" team (which would put more officers on the street) than some "gun" team. Or a "robbery" and "burglary" team for that matter.
I Heart The RP, is it ok if I use your comment in a post I'm making on this site?
Funny how Shortshanks a/k/a Daley uses these meida campaigns to make himself seem like he cares about the city.
Oh yeah, like I was really going to go this and waste my time.
Here is a god idea, why does the mayor still have CPD as a security detail at his residence? Put those P.O.'s on the street.
anomadic - i imagine any mayor of a large city has police security. I know very little about the police, except for the comments I read and a few conversations with officers I have met while walking the dogs. Backing the police is much more important to me than seeing Daley and his squad walking for a few blocks. But, if it makes the people that live in the area feel a bit more empowered - that's good.
The idea of been there getting "wet" is very, very disturbing...
I decided to delete my latest post here. It contributed nothing. Besides, I'm boring to you guys, right? Yep. I'll remember that when a fight breaks out at Sullivan and all of you want details.
BillyJoe'sBrain: I need to talk to you, through email. It's nothing bad. It's about you know who.
Oh, what happened to Timmy's little tantrum post? That was the most entertaining thing on this site in months!
For the record, Billy Joe thinks it's fun to make fun of Timmy. I won't publish his worthless comments so he emails them to Timmy and I.
The last one was so disgusting, I'm sure Timmy's feeling were hurt. Needless to say I'm ready to quit this blog because of asshats like him.
But that's what he wants so I won't give this worhtless person the satafation.
Hey Billy Joe, allow us the pleasure of knowing WHO you really are. Stop being so cowardly with your hateful comments. Be a man. Or woman.
I deleted it, you piece of shit. And it was entertaining for me "throwing a tantrum"?? REALLY? It wouldn't have been a fucking "tantrum" had these IDIOTS really cared about their "issues". I find it funny how MY posts are the ONLY ones that are hated on. That shows me how LOW you people are. Yeah, so what if I'm a teenageer? So what if I live 40-50 minutes from RP? I still go to school up here, so what happens in RP DOES matter to me.
You all approve of me ripping Sullivan to shreads, litterally (and I now think I was a fucking idiot for doing that), but yet I make a post about a serious issue of violence and you've got the NERVE to rank it BORING?? I'm kind of glad this isn't my blog. I wouldn't have tolerated that bullshit.
Boy, am I beginning to miss my old friends.
Screw all of you. I'm done. You guys want Sullivan news? Get it from Craig.
P.S. Craig, yes, I am totally pissed off. I'm sorry I have to be this way, but I have to express my anger. And I realize I'm being a drama queen, but so be it. That's the only way people will apprieatce me.
Craig, you're aware of the emails he's sent to me? Yes, I am hurt by them. I'm also hurt by your readers. They think I'm a joke or a pushover. Well, I'm sure as hell not.
Like Craig, since I have to go to school up there in RP, I'm trying to make RP a better place. I don't want to be gunned down walking the streets with my class. So I made a post. But it's a joke. Well, unless I'm convinced otherwise that I'm not a joke, I will not be wasting my time caring.
I'm not like Joe Moose who takes credit for everything, but all of you will come back crawling to me when the brawls break out at Sullivan again. This time, I am not sure if I want to return with them.
Craig, I just sent you a long email. It doesn't contain anger or anything towards you. Just an explanation about how I feel.
Timmy,
you're doing well.
You are evolving as a writer and as an individual.
Chin-chin.
Sometimes internet trolls have a way of boiling the blood. It happens to the best of us. Timmy had a rough day.
We had a little chat. I think he's shook it off.
Most of it, Craig. I shook off our little troll billyjoe, though. Thank you for your words of encouragement. I also need to thank BillyJoe'sBrain, who I talked to over email as well.
Oh, and thanks to you as well, Newgarder.
I'm still somewhat angry at the readers who ranked my post boring yesterday.
Sorry for not log on yesterday. Timmy- you are welcome to use the comment if you still want to. There are some of us that enjoy your contributions. I'm one of them. I don't know if you've noticed that I think there are plenty of good students that attend Sullivan. Not all of you over there are little pieces of trash menacing Rogers park. I live near Ashland between Pratt and Farwell and I'm tired of them and their crap. That's why I attend the marches and(often, frustratingly worthless) CAPS and community meetings. People can bitch and moan here on the blogs and do nothing to try and better the situation or they can bitch and moan and also try to contribute in productive ways to try and make the situation better. I'm not a big fan of the mayor, but I agree with what he said at the rally. In particular, why aren't people outraged by the violence and the gangs? Why aren't they taking it to the streets, demanding the police and government stop it? If people sit on their fat asses and do nothing, noting will change.
Timmy - you can't let the creeps affect your day or how you feel - they are everywhere!
Craig - maybe when you see the Billyjoe post, just delete it before you even read. Why bother to post from the people that are just here to cause problems? It's too bad some people have to be monitored like junior high school kids.
Well, thank you, I Heart The RP. If I get enough self esteem back, I will probably remake that post. Trust me, I wanted to keep it up, but I got angered by everyone out there who ranked my post as boring about a serious issue. Yes, I noticed that there are other good students at Sullivan. I know some of them and befriended them over the school year :-). They're tired of the crap too, like most of us here. I agree with the rest of your post as well. I'm outraged by the violence, I can tell you that. Which is why I do a blog.
Raz, yeah, I know I shouldn't let them affect my day, but I used to suffer from low self esteem (and still do a bit), so when I saw all of that yesterday, it crashed my self esteem. Today, it's back up quite a bit but I'm still using caution. I'll try my very best to do better in the future. And yep, they sure are everywhere.
