Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate you, Tim, for your persistence in writing, which has greatly improved since you began your blog!
We would also like to thank you for taking over for Craig occasionally...you know, the 'old guy' does need a break sometimes!
Keep up the excellent work, and please keep writing. Your outlook on things has become so mature lately. Think what you can be in just a couple more years--ANY thing you want to be!
Dear fellow Rogers Parkers: I must admit that I am quite shocked that little Timmy is only sixteen years old. That seems too early in life for a tender young boy to be listening into a police scanner and reporting crimes of violence, brutality and even sexuality by the disadvantaged of our society. I would think that there are more wholesome activities for such a young person to persue. If little Timmy wants to write, are there not subjects more appropriate for someone who is not yet a legal adult? God bless his little heart and may he be safe and protected from all harm. Thank you.
Well, Timmy, maybe more of a clarification than a complaint. The one item about the "Baby Daddy/Momma" thing...was there actually a baby involved? Did the two involved in the dispute have a child together?
Man On The Street, I only put down what dispatch said. She said that these two were dating, but they also had a child together. And, there was a baby involved, according to the dispatcher/caller.
Racheal Slur, Yes I'm 16, but I certainly know how things work (well, not everything, but you'll probably know what I mean). As I've learned, violence can affect anyone, no matter what gender, race or age they are. I've never had to do a police report nor have I personally ever been a vitcim of an actual crime (though just about all of my family members have been), but I've been imtimdated and threatened by gangbangers at my elementary school, James Monroe. Attending the 28th (don't know if it's still ranked that number) worst school in this city made me see things the way I do. At that school, anything could happen, and just about everything happened.
We had a girl who tried to stab a teacher's aide (which I personally witnessed), we've had a couple of girls in school pregnant, we've had full-blown gangbangers in the school. There were kids arrested for drugs and liquior. We had a few food fights so bad where the police had to be called in. One food fight in particular that occurred March 2008 is when even the police had to call for back-up. So, as you can see, I went to a extremely violent school before Sullivan.
I purchased my scanner on Christmas of 2007. I orginally wanted it to hear if any of my classmates were ever called on, or to hear reports of violence at the school when I was not in school (I only missed two to four days at most in the four years of going to Monroe), but now I listen to the scanner to hear what's going on and to write it down, helping out my community.
The reason why I'm not doing other activites is because most of the time I don't want to head outside only to get beaten, mugged or shot. I lost my best friend to gang violence (he wasn't a gangbanger, mind you. Far from it), which is particulary why I'm afraid to go outside in my neighborhood.
But, when school is in session, I will be getting involved in activites when there's not too much schoolwork.
Also, you should see the kinds of things kids my age are into. Most of them aren't doing appropriate things (some of which I can understand since I'm a teenager myself, but most of it is dumb, which definately includes thugging).
I feel that I'm old enough to know about these kind of things. After all, in two years, I'll be an adult.
My dearest Little Timmy: I am quite horrified by your comments and at your experience with crime and violence. A person as young as yourself should be living a carefree life. Tears are welling up in my eyes as I write this. May God bless you in your work and keep you free from evil, danger, and harm. Amen. .

Wow! If Timmy lived here in Rogers Park, between he and Craig there would be no stopping us!
Thanks, everyone :). And guess what? My interviewer was right. I'm getting more readers. And, Craig, I think you might too.

wondering if Rachel Slur was Alderman's Intern and all those other tongue-in-cheek blogs...
