Looks as if the police recovered the gun and caught the offender north of Howard.

Just curious, how do you guys find out about these things breaking news. I live right by the Howard CTA station and would like to know whenever these things happen to duck and cover.

There were 3 shots. The shell casings were on the sidewalk in front of the alley on the north side of Howard between Greenview and Bosworth. Apparently, an older gentleman was hit in the foot and walked back to his apartment in the 7600 block of Greenview.

Joe must be a VERY HEAVY SLEEPER, yes?

2 shootings in less than 48 hours in a 2 block radius. One victim that we are aware of and not a word from our Alderman.

We need to organize like our Uptown neighbors and get this on the news. I want to see Joe and Helen ride out of town on the same rail.

Ald. Joe "The Joke" Moore (Just Dumb-49th) has yet to realize, after 19 years, what his JOB should be!

Let's try asking him for the sake of transperancy, what happened in SSA #19?

Anybody know?

Sounds like your beat guys are overwhelmed. I wonder if the Commander has asked for help from the various units that are available such as MSF, TRU, the saturation team? I wonder if your Alderman has asked the Commander if he has asked for that help. I wonder if they gave 024 their Gang Team back or is it still somewhere else. Wait a minute, Rogers Park is up north right, it's not on the south or westsides, right? In that case never mind, I already know the answer.

Overheard on the scanner last night during the North of Howard chase.

"Does 20 have a wagon available for 24?"

To say the police are undermanned would be an understatement.

Oh, but the incoming classes at Loyola U. were well protected with extra/extra CPD officers this week.

As far as I know, Rogers Park still doesn't have a new district commander.
I wonder why the hell not.
Something very fishy here.

Nor does 018. Nor does Bomb and Arson. It seems as though they are not replacing Commanders when they leave. What they have been doing is to take somebody that already works there and make him the "acting Commander" until they actually find a replacement. That person, while doing the job of Commander, does not receive the pay of that rank, he continues to be compensated at his normal rank. Another way Daley saves money for the Olympics. Not very good for moral nor is it,IMHO, an efficient way to run a Police Department. But I guess in the scheme of things it doesn't really matter. Daley has screwed up this Police Department so bad I don't think anything can restore it to what it was. Which is why guys like me are leaving. In the not too distant future you are going to have a Police Department comprised of two year wonders led by a group of five year wonders. As as you can see by what's going on now, when you install incompetent people as leaders, people with no Police background, you get the level of crime that you now have such as that in RP. Install POLICE OFFICERS as leaders, not the civilians that they have and I can guarantee you crime will go down!

I know the police are working without a contract, but really -- the acting commander isn't getting commander pay? Can't the union do something about that?

Daley shot himself in the foot, so to speak, by ruling Chicago in such an underhanded way. He wanted his legacy to be the Olympics. However, his legacy is that Chicagoans no longer trust city government. Chicago is not the city that works, it's the city of crooks.

All Commanders are what is called "exempt". They serve at the pleasure of the Superintendent and can be busted back to their "civil service" rank at any time. For instance, the former Commander of 024 had the "civil service" rank of Lieutenant. When a Commander leaves or retires, one of the Lieutenants or Captains that works there assumes the role of Commander until a replacement is named. He receives the same salary as a Lieutenant or Captain. Most probably go along with this in an effort to be a "team player" or in the hope that they can get the job permanently although I don't know why anyone would want that job to begin with. They really do not have a union or at least a union strong enough to protest this. As a matter fact, all the Police Unions really serve one purpose only and that is to become a scapegoat for mismanagment of the Command Staff. When something goes wrong the city loves to say the union prevented them from acting on the problem when in reality nothing could be further from the truth.

Dear Big Baddy,
Thank you for giving us the wonderful and helpful information on the Chicago Police Department. God bless them and protect them as they do their difficult jobs. And God bless you, too.
