This went down right in front of my house. Great...and people wonder why I'm paranoid and carry a knife on me. You never know when you'll have to defend yourself around here.

Always bring a gun to a knife fight. It generally prevents needless bloodshed. Yours

Just think Chris: the story could have been "Two Females and a Male Fight With Knifes [sic] in Rogers Park."

Don't knock him, kadee. It's reached that point around RP. Sorry to say, but everybody who is not a part of that subculture is a potential victim and the thugs, etc., DO. NOT. CARE. Your words of reason won't stop them, trust me. Your belief in the inherent goodness of humankind won't stop them. For crying out loud, you've got two females fighting with knives in the park at 9:30 p.m. If that doesn't tell you things are different around RP, nothing will. If they want your iPhone, your iPod, etc., they will take it. If they want to jump you from behind at night and take your wallet with the three bucks in it or just to beat you up in another "gooning" episode, they'll do it. Your belief that "it won't happen to me" won't help, no matter how much you change your patterns. There are shootings at 4:30 p.m., muggings at 10 a.m., attacks at midnight. So you really can't mock Chris for wanting to protect himself. Sure, better educational opportunities, better employment opportunities may be the answer. But until that time... Well you gotta accept that people are going to want to try and protect themselves and their families as long as they're living in RP during this time.

Pastor told me that someone had their nose cut off near Damen last night, not far from the building where he and his wife just moved into.

I was just thinking the other night how I don't carry any of my knives anymore. I carry other non-violent weapons, but damn, the knives may be added to my arsenal again as well. This is like growing up on the West Side back in the 1970's.

MOTS: I lived in RP in the late 80s and my observation is that the same stuff was happening then.

That's why I left: The better solution is to live in a neighborhood where I don't have to carry a knife for "protection."

Well Kadee, when I am put in a position where my hours and wages have been drastically cut which forced me to move from Jefferson Park to the low-rent neighborhood of Rogers Park to begin with...well maybe you can provide some constructive criticism instead of telling me how you used to live here in the 80s and that it's all the same?

Fear is not something that I will allow my life to be crippled by. Give them an inch and they take a mile. I refuse to play the victim unless someone has a gun pointed in my face.

Uh, Kadee,

Crime is everywhere. I hope you're not thinking that some neighborhoods are safer than others. That's a fallacy. People get assaulted, robbed, etc. in Lincoln Park just like they do in Rogers Park.

And for those of you who can't afford to leave, Kadee would like to tell you "Too bad. Suck on it. But don't carry a knife for protection. That's just wrong."
