Moore Takes a Verbal Beating on TV

Garrard McClendon takes Joe Moore to the woodshed - and doesn't let up until the cameras were turned off. Moore looks like a deer in the headlights of a semi going down a country road. All the spineless Alderman could do was repeat a tired old company line Daley has been using for the last year. Joe also explains his flip-flopping on his one day he's against it, the next day he's for it, attitude.

McClendon and the callers point out a "49-0" vote shows Daley has these Alderman exactly where he wants them. In his pocket. So, who gets to draw up this once-in-a-lifetime, $1.4 Billion insurance policy? The Daley Insurance Company perhaps?

Joe, you're only fooling yourself. We all know the Mayor pulls your strings.

He didn't seem to take too much of a beating here. Joe Moore appeared to make a reasonably valid and conservative point in his own defense. I think the Olympics WILL bring a tax burden in addition to opportunities for growth and jobs -- IF we get the games.

That doesn't mean that the 49-0 vote isn't suspect.

===Giving themselves a standing ovation, aldermen eagerly jumped onto Mayor Richard Daley's Olympics bandwagon Wednesday, unanimously approving a measure that places the responsibility for cost overruns on taxpayers if Chicago hosts the 2016 Summer Games.===

Daley is obviously the master of every single alderman.Wonder how it feels to be a serf? Ask your alderman. He/she knows.

"The critics have been silenced," declared the 12th Ward's George Cardenas.

As I'm having to cut back and layoff workers in my business, Daley and his puppets are spending like a bunch of drunken sailors.

I'm running out of money to help cover their buzz.

Oh please ms21 - "doesn't mean the 49-0 vote is suspect"??? Are you serious??? The Alderman could care less about the people of this city - they all see $$ and seats at the events. At the end - they all caved. I wish that every single one of the Alderman would be taken out of office the next election.
Joe looked liked he was in the hot seat to me - so much for his big stand - what a joke!

Joe was on the ropes stammering and stuttering at the start. The host then took aimless calls from viewers, giving Joe a chance to regroup and compose his line of B.S.

Joe won.
Daley won.
We loose.

Before you start with your commentary, carefully read what I wrote. I said "That doesn't mean that the 49-0 vote isn't suspect."

The DOESN'T + ISN'T (double negative) being the operative words. Of course I think that the politics in Chicago are totally suspect if not totally corrupt.

However, I think there was an obvious bias with this bit of journalism, not too much objectivity here.

5 AM Garbage truck pulls into alley by Lunt and Wolcott. Sound of dumpster being dumped into truck wakes my 23 month old son from sleep. Could see him back down alley with no beep beep device.

Should be an easy ticket to write if anyone was interested. 2nd Friday this has happened.

Next Friday I will be confronting the driver. Come by to check out what goes down.

Did I hear Joe say he listens and votes the way of his constituents? Does he know who his constituents are?

Dearest fellow Rogers Parkers,
Mr. Joe Moore conducted himself with calm dignity and great assurance in this interview. The television man was crude, loud, disorganized and rude to this great man. The callers added nothing.
Mr. Moore is certainly entitled to vote in the way that he thinks is correct. I am not sure I agree with bringing the 2016 Games here unless it provides help for the poor and needy, the homeless and the disadvantaged, but I am sure Mayor Richard M. Daley and Alderman Joe Moore have the best interests of the city at heart. Remember, we elect him to lead us because we don't have the time and are not intelligent enough to understand the issues like he does. With so many people in Chicago, it will be difficult to get us all to agree. A vote of 49-0 is not a negative. It just means that everyone is in agreement that the 2016 Games are a wonderful thing for this city. They may show a profit and that money can be spent on needed projects such as low-cost or free housing, help with energy bills, free public transportation, food subsidies, and health care. Most respectfully yours.

Razldzzalalrrl,

Uh...ok.

I just didn't think it was fair that you advertised my words opposite of their intended meaning. Not a big deal. More e-banter. Ugggh.

rachel, just fyi-
any profits generated by the games themselves are disbursed according to ioc rules. a portion goes to the ioc, and a set portion, about 25% iirc, is required to be spent on youth sports. l.a. has more money now than they did when the games ended. it has been placed in an endowment, and is still supporting after-school programs, and many other youth sports programs, for thousands of kids every year.

course, no one in rogers park would like to see that happen.

i think the unanimous vote was an important symbol for the ioc. i think they want to see that at least all the government bodies involved are in order.

"...not intelligent enough to understand the issues..."

Seriously??? The responsibility of constituents is to be skeptical, ask questions and demand answers. Bureaucrats & pols are hardly endowed (by God or anybody else) with greater wisdom or intelligence than constituents. More likely, they are in office because of useful political connections. Seriously.
