Good afternoon, Roger Parkers. I'm currently listening to the 20th/24th District radio for personal reasons, so while I do that, I'd thought it'd be a good idea to put down some calls in the neighborhood while I'm listening in (see, I think about you guys). I'm not just doing this because I'm bored. Anywho I'll be here for a little while. I hope you feel informed by this information I'm supplying.
5:11pm - The Howard Street Initiative (HSI) has just been activated for today, by Beat 2461. I'm not sure of the boundaries, but I'm guessing this mission is to combat gangs. The event number is 11294.
5:15pm - Traffic accident at Sherdian and Farwell. Unknown damage or injuries, but there is a dispute on scene.
6:23pm - No details on this one (because I stepped out of the room at the moment), but there's a man with a gun call at 7731 North Paulina. Update at 6:25pm - Beat car 2422 gives the slow down. Update #2 at 6:47pm - This job is coded, but a contact card was done on the "offender".
6:28pm - Check the well being at 6915 North Sherdian. An unknown subject came into someone's apartment and started fighting with them. Caller refused to answer the 911 operator's questions. Update at 6:31pm - The call is now a "battery in progress" with a man beating a woman. Update #2 at 6:40pm - 2444 is telling Dispatch that 6915 Sherdian is not a good address. They will go over to 6815 Sherdian instead to look.
7:19pm - This is disturbing. A "check the well being" just came into 911 for 1508 West Jarvis. A three or four-year-old boy just walked into the cafe and appears to be either intoxicated or high. He's stumbling. He then walked out and went towards Ashland. Update at 7:22pm - An update reveals that the mother is with the child and she also appears to be drunk or high. Wow. Just wow.
7:41pm - This is the third call for this block within the last 40 minutes. Here's what I got. Check the well being at 6644 North Ashland. A man was arguing with some people then he said he was going to kill himself, then he ran out into the street directly into on-coming traffic but luckly the cars stopped, then he came back on the sidewalk and argued again. The two other calls were 6600 North Ashland for a man holding kids for stealing his wallet at 7:09pm, then two minutes later, a disturbance was called in for 6646 North Ashland for a teenage boy in a grey sweatshirt yelling in front, possibly under the influence.
8:00pm - I am gone for the night. I should be back with a Sullivan update in the next two or so weeks, unless something major erupts at the school sometime during the week. Good night, everyone.

Well not to worry. I am sure the mother, probably is "temporarily" between jobs, and is not paying much in income taxes, will go out and purchase mandatory health insurance, because the government says she must and she and her child will get perfect substance abuse healthcare!
She will be the best mother ever and, to avoid fines by the IRS, she will dutifully begin to file her income taxes and prove to one of the 16,000 additional IRS agents hired that she has acquired the mandatory insurance! YAY!!!!!!!!
Give me a break! Ten years from now, the mother will still be unemployed, still be high, still not filing her income taxes and her son will be a junkie robbing, mugging and killing innocent people to feed his drug addiction. And healthcare reform will be the biggest boondoggle in history. Why? Because she and her son will STILL run to the emergency room whenever they almost overdose, get shot, get stabbed or get beat by the ex-con living with them. They will still be treated, just like today, due to the EMTALA statute, and they will still not pay for services rendered.
these are the kind of updates i love. it gives me a good picture of the area (mainly spots to avoid come the summer).
cheers and keep up the good work.

There's a reason why you are a paralegal and not a lawyer.
Interesting info - thanks for sharing!
Chicago - I completely agree with you - it's all pathetic!
@nrn312; I'm confused. Where did you see paralegal? The last profession I would ever want to do is paralegal, or lawyer!
Try again!
On St. Patrick's Day (March 17th, I stopped at the Morse Market at around 4:45. As I was walking in I heard 5 POPS. Being the idiot that I am I thought that somebody was setting off fireworks. Then I saw the school kids start to RUN. I ran into the market because I knew it was gunfire. It was right across from. "The Common Cup." There were about 12 cop cars that showed up. I have a scanner in the car and I heard that a kid had been shot in the shoulder.
