Harry Osterman Will Make it Official Tonight (UPDATE)

According to the Facebook page of State Rep. Greg Harris, State Rep. Harry Osterman will make a formal announcement tonight regarding his political future. It's been widely circulated he'll run for 48th Ward Alderman. A position once held by his mother.

The burning question: Who will State Rep. Osterman hand his current State Representative seat to?

Question #2: Rumors in the 49th Ward say there's a lady named Joyce Shanahan who is thinking of running for Alderman. Will she be the one to take down Joe Moore? Or is Joe Moore a lock for another 4 years?

UPDATE: If you haven't heard, Mayor Daley won't run for Mayor in 2011. Speculation has begun on who will run for the office on the 5th floor of City Hall. I'm wondering who really wants to inherit the mess our city is in?

The Tribune has this from Joe Moore.... Ald. Joe Moore, 49th, said he was "very much surprised. There was speculation he may not run again, but I think everyone had predicted over the last several weeks, as he made pronouncements that seemed to indicate he had every intention of running for reelection, that he indeed was going to run for reelection. So it is a huge surprise that is going to rock this City Hall.

"I think that in recent weeks with the lack of a credible re-election opponent, it looked like he was on his way to victory. As I've often said, 'You can't beat somebody with nobody.' And so far, nobody seemed to be the only potential opponent."

Moore, an independent Democrat often touted as a potential mayoral candidate, said he was planning to run for reelection "and my initial reaction right now is to continue" that effort. "But I'm still reeling from the news, so I'm not going to say anything until I let it soak in."

A man riding a bicycle was killed Sunday morning in a collision with a Mini Cooper in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

A man riding a bicycle collided with a Mini Cooper about 9:45 a.m. at North Ridge and West Farwell avenues, according to a Rogers Park District police Lt. Donna Dowd, who said the bicyclist was killed.

The unidentified man was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The 69-year-old bicyclist, who lived in the area, apparently ignored a stop sign and was in the intersection when the northbound Mini Cooper struck him, Rogers Park District police Lt. Mark Amati said.

It was not immediately known whether there were any citations written for the 26-year-old North Side woman behind the wheel of the Mini Cooper.

The incident is not a hit-and-run and no one else was injured, Dowd said.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.

I think there's 2 dozen current officer holders sitting at their desk day-dreaming about occupying the 5th floor of city hall today.

I'm even gladder to see Daley go than I was Pres. Bush. Daley destroyed this city financially, and wrecked our transit and our police dept. while wasting our money on his pet vanity projects. May the gods and THE VOTERS protect us from his probable anointed successor, Huberman, or worse, Rahm Emmanuel.

I'm glad to hear that Osterman may be running in the 48th.

Sorry to say that Joyce Shanahan, who may be running in our 49th Ward, looks like a loser from the start. She might as well not even bother to run. So far she has only an amateurish website featuring her family, and her work history with no specifics as to what company she founded and what non-profit she worked for. She does not talk about her views concerning major issues around here, or state her goals for the ward, or how she will accomplish them, other than vague boilerplate statements about "building coalitions" to "create jobs" and "invigorate retail corridors".

This is going to be an interesting election with Daley and Schiller stepping down, but it will be very dull around here unless someone more interesting steps up to challenge our incumbent.

I dont think huberman would have a prayer. He is irritating.
I dont know why some people even mention him. He is a lackey and a cronie.

Why not rahm emmanuel?
He is a tough guy that gets things done.

Why on God's green earth would anyone think Harry Osterman is anything but a big boob?

Let's see, he got his current job because of his mother, now he's going back to the cradle after MAS kept it warm for him all these years ICK!! (p.s., I like MAS)

About as funny as Joe Moore for Mayor LOL!!!

Mayor Daley is ending up just like George Ryan who spend the state dry before he left office. Seems to be a trend regardless of affiliation.

Now, if Obama would just go away, maybe we can find someone that has some moral character and do what's right for the great citizens of this city.

Oh lord - we need someone great to replace Joe Moore and someone even greater for the Mayor's job. I would love to see non-politicians in both roles - people that aren't interested in re-elections but truly doing what is right and representing the people. In today's world - does that even exist?
