good to see you posted this craig
i just found it on the google news search and was about to post it.

Wonder if it was some loyola kids.

The loyola kids can be a hassle.
Had to kick out some loyola college kids this summer that were squatting in a building we just got. Which I love. Yeah we have our parents or borrowing or whatever to further our education. But we decided to try squatting for the hell of it.

Something I never thought of doing when I was in college or would have ever thought of doing......

Speaking of criminals. . .why haven't the cops shut down the guy who attempts to get money out of people in RP with the story about his kid having asthma and needing an inhaler?

I happened to be house sitting for a friend in area and he rings the bell around 10:30 PM. As soon as I heard his story, and his obviously poor acting job (he had a cell phone to his ear, pretending that he was calling a wife) I knew who he was. He identified himself as "Tim". The pastor of my church says he's always being approached by this guy near where pastor lives.

Geofredo, are you kidding me? Loyola and their students keep Rogers Park from being a complete and udder slum.

It's udderly fascinating how Courtney can ignore the spell check feature. Spoken like a true Loyola jamoke.

While Loyola students contribute a lively and youthful presence, it is not they who keep Rogers Park from becoming a "complete and utter slum".

This neighborhood is distinctly not a slum, merely a marginal neighborhood that went through a very bad period thanks to government subsidies for slumlords who felt it was served them better economically to feed at the Section 8 trough than maintain their buildings to be attractive to normal people. The people who have saved it are the thousands of middle class residents and homeowners who have committed to it and loved it, owned homes and condos up here for decades, and sat out the worst period in this neighborhood while fighting to get bad buildings cleaned up or vacated, improve our parks and community services, built community gardens, and pressured local authorities to discipline slumlords and bad businesses that generate crime and dirt.

The college kids are nice, but they are temporary residents and most of them will move on after school. Were it not for the long-term residents of this area who have fought the blight and slumlords for 30 years, this would be no neighborhood you would want your college-age kid living in on his own.

Courtney I kid you not.
Our Family had one half of an apartment building and we had to watch another idiotic management company mismanage the other half.

We finally just og the other half. But not after a couple of Loyola kids used one apartment as a crashpad. Another loyola kid was living with a true lifelong squattter. It was not easy to get them out and they were very messy.

Thanks for the comments NorthCoast.
I spend alot of hours fixing up the apt building and making it a nice place to live for decent hardworking people who care about the community.

While I do like living near Loyola and the college crowd. Its a mixed blessing obviously, but overall it is a positive thing.

The aren't cops and, by law, shouldn't be impersonating them with their red emergency lights and the rest of the police trappings.
