BEHIV Shuts Down

While many may not know of the place, BEHIV shut down today due to funding. BEHIV started as a small storefront HIV testing center on Glenwood, near Morse Avenue. Later it moved to the house near the United Church of Rogers Park. As not-for-profit's go, BEHIV was one of the few that did it right. 80% of all money went to services, 20% administration.

No extravagant black-tie fundraisers. No overly high paid execs or board members. They just served the community.

To all that worked or volunteered, hat's off to you for your service to a great little organization.

Off topic post. Warning. Warning.

Was walking around the neigborhood this evening doing a spot pickup of some litter and noticed that the Defunct Laundry Room that has darkened our fair corner of Morse is finally being emptied out a bit. Some metal scrappers took out gumball machine and chairs and a pop machine. And there is a For Rent sign. So there is hope that sometime in the near future that a new tenant on the Morse and Wayne stretch of Morse may see a new tenant.

I also notice the nice house/2flat brick extra wide on farwell just west of greenview on the northside of the street has been painted a shade of yellow in its trim. Not the color I wouldve picked but atleast there is signs of life there and its being fixed up on the exterior.

Litter not too bad today,
but I filled up two kitchen trash bags full up this am.

Just trying to avoid or ameliorate the unholy harvest to come when the snow melts.

Trash was the worst at Pratt and Sheridan.

So there is hope that sometime in the near future we may see a new tenant on the Morse and Wayne stretch of Morse.

Where's the attribution? As an alleged journalist, you should know you need to show proof of what you say. This is very important to someone I know, but I'm not going to tell them about it if it's just a rumor spread by a lame blog that posts embellishments all the time.

Sorry about that, Yahoo. Gernhardt Publications broke the story.
