TV Crews in the 24th District this Weekend

Gee, I wonder how Fox knows someone is calling 911, and when?
"In 024 we were told at Friday’s roll call by the WC (Lt.) that FOX News would be filming and possibly monitoring response times."
My studies have shown when I call 911 it takes at least 3 minutes for the call to reach dispatch. That means every time I've called 911, it takes at least 3 minutes for me to hear my call go over the scanner. After that, it takes the police anywhere from 1 to 25 minutes to arrive. With the slower response times I received, when I ask, I'm told it wasn't "high priority."

Are the reporters going to watch crimes happen while starting the stop-watch, start filming, then call 911?

Blognotes: Yesterday about 8:30 AM, there was a nasty two car accident at Touhy and Sheridan. My first reaction wasn't to call 911 or pull out my camera, but to rush to the aid of the drivers. As I was getting one driver out of his mangled vehicle, I noticed a Paddy Wagon parked at Touhy and the lake, facing the lake. I yelled at one lady watching the crash scene from the sidewalk on the east side of Sheridan to grab the attention of the police vehicle by the lake.

The squad took at least 3 minutes to travel 100 yards. Man, was I getting pissed at how slow it took him to go such a short distance. While I waited for the lake-watching officer to get on scene after I found out both drivers were okay, I spent the next couple minutes directing southbound traffic on Sheridan to go west on Touhy. I don't know if that was proper traffic control protocol, but it was the only thing I could think of at the time.

Outside of two mangled vehicles, both drivers walked away with a few cuts and bruises.

good work Craig.

Thats whats lacking in Rogers Park to a certain extent but less so more recently. People who care.
People who arent just observers and people who act!

Its a cliche, but life isnt a spectator sport....
And if it is it will be super boring.....

This is instance in which the old 911 system at 11th & State worked better.
As long as the call taker wasn't overwhelmed with calls, which would cause calls to go to the overflow call takers, the call taker sat right next to each zone's dispatcher & could immediately tell them it was an important call to be assigned. The call taker could talk to the dispatcher & give the the tone & urgency in the caller's voice.
That's lost now.

Nice job Craig - People drive so crazy on Sheridan while talking on their cell phones - I'm amazed there aren't more accidents. I never cross the street with the dogs until all cars are completely stopped!
