Drive-by on Lunt Kills One, Wounds One
A man is dead and one is wounded following a drive-by shooting early this morning in the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood, police said. At 2:58 a.m., a 31-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were in the 1600 block of West Lunt Avenue when they were approached by attackers who fired shots, according to a release from Chicago police News Affairs. it's 3:15 am on march 6th and we just heard 7 rapid shots at farwell and ashland. looks like it's starting early.

ShareE-MailPrintAn armed man robbed a Subway restaurant about two blocks north of a police station in the Rogers Park neighborhood Friday night.
The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Friday when the suspect entered the Subway, 6555 N. Clark St., through its front door. He showed a handgun and took cash, according to a Rogers Park District police lieutenant.
No one was hurt and no one was in custody late Saturday morning.
The Rogers Park District police station is located at 6464 N. Clark St.
Belmont Area detectives are investigating.

I would say that litter is a symptom of violence and decay and not caring..... Thats I why I pick it up. Or atleast partly...
I'm kinda surprised by the lack of media coverage of the shooting. An 18 year old kid died, and aside from an article at the Tribune's site, and an article at the Sun-Times's site, there has been no coverage at all.

Thank you Mel! I'm sick of hearing "teenager shot" etc. when they're talking about 17 & 18yr old gangbangers. You're no longer a kid when you're walking around with a gun and/or dealing drugs.

Let's see, a person gets shot, and all you mopes care about is wordplay. Next thing you all will bitch about is what make and model the vehicle was that drove-by spraying bullets. (Actually, that's kind'a important.)

I hear ya. I didn't mean the wording wasn't correct, just that I highly doubt the 2 MEN shot were innocent passersby. I'd guess that somehow they knew their assailants due to some kind of illegal activity. The story really sucks because this is our neighborhood too and we have to maybe walk our dogs or do other normal human things at 10pm. We shouldn't have to look over our shoulder to see if some gangbanger is going to accidentally shoot us when aiming at his enemy.
We need to be more vigilant but in a manor that does not get us shot. I have a pretty good understanding on these guys work as I have been studying and researching their techniques for a while. Plus I dated a girl who's brother was Gangster Disciples that called shots right on Morse and Wayne. The police don't have as much control as we would all like so its going to be up to us to make it known that these guys are not welcome. It can be done. If you see riff raff in the alley tell them to get the f-ck out of there. SHOW NO FEAR. If you are worried about showing your face buy a ski mask. Nothing puts the fear in a thug when someone tells them to get out of the alley in a ski mask. Especially if the angle is two hard for them to shoot. It puts fear of the unknown by them. I only recommend doing this if you live on a 2nd or 3rd floor since its pretty hard for them to shoot into your house. I am from Detroit and I have to tell you that Morse Ave has a lot of very obvious drug activity. If we can reduce this we can reduce the highly profitable turf the gangs are fighting for. These apartment filled streets are a gold mine for the Kings, GD's and VL's and the only way we can quell the gun play is make this area less of a gold mine. Lets do something about it instead of making smart comments. We all live here and the summer time is about to get much hotter.
By the way the GD's and LK's have a VERY strict policy about shooting bystanders accidently, its punishable by death and is ALWAYS enforced eventually. Usually very brutally in prison by their own or a paid rival to humiliate them. In areas that have high drug traffic this is absolutely forbidden because if this does happen it usually creates a large police and community backlash that hurts drug activity. Do your homework on gang bangers. They do have some rules are not completely mindless with their violence. Its dollars and territory pretty much the same as capitalism.
Thats why I pickup trash EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Why does Morse and Wayne look so good right now? Its not magic or a miracle, I pick up the trash there every single damn day. I picked up a bit this morning. Took 5 minutes, I saw a guy working on the empty video store this morning, its looks like unlike the old slumlord greek who owns nikos that the owner of that minimall wants someone in sooner rather than never.
