Fire at Estes and Ashland (update)

A kitchen fire broke out on the second floor at 7068 North Ashland, November 21, 2012, at approximately 8:25 a.m. - alarming school kids walking to school. At least five firetrucks, a couple of ambulances, and multiple police cars responded, blocking off Ashland from Lunt to Estes -- and Greenleaf from Paulina to Ashland.

The resident on the second floor where the fire was started was reportedly taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Third floor residents above had to leave their apartments due to the heavy smoke.  A resident left the front of the 3-story courtyard building holding his cat. By 8:50 a.m., the firefighters had the fire out and were packing up their fire hoses and equipment.

Update - 10:00 a.m: The Red Cross has arrived on scene, as have the board-up companies listening to the scanner.

This is a big rental courtyard building.... I believe the entire addresses span from 7064 to 7074 on Ashland.

@Eric EB, thats because the EB'ers only know how to consume news through hearsay. A collective consensus is the only way to get hyperlocal news nowadays. What Craig is doing with actually photography and reporting is so old fashioned and outdated now.

Doesn't Craig know better to just let the everyblockers create a thread entitled What going on with blah blah blah?

I go to Everyblock to see which one of my idiot neighbors couldn't find his/her toilet paper after taking a shit.

I come here to get the facts.

GOODIE GOODIE: Someone lost a cat. Amy has one of those goodie storys for you on eb today. Read this. LOST CAT ALERT! Tree House adopted Sashay, a short-haired brown tabby spayed female who is about 3 years old, went missing early in the morning on Monday, 11/19. She has her claws and a microchip registered to Tree House. Her home is near Hoyne and Jarvis. This is an old photo of her from the time of her adoption a couple of years ago. She is friendly, but likely rather scared. Please keep your eyes open for her and call us if you have any information at (773) 784-5488 ext. 0!

As a member of the private sector, how much do I owe the hospital for the smoke inhalation treatment given to the second floor resident where the fire started? Will the hospital accept a personal check, my credit card, or must I pay in cash?
And how much to I owe the city for those fire trucks, ambulances, and po-po who responded?

I've had my words here. All were meant in good humor and for fun discussion and argument. But this girl has gotta lose the stage she's biting.
