Possible Pillar's Social Cafe closing is latest Everyblock gossip topic |
There's all sorts of reasons being thrown around.
For my outlook on the situation, the only reason a business closes so soon after opening is - they weren't making enough money to cover all the expenses. i.e.: the neighbors didn't support the place.
I'm guessing they were too busy on Everyblockhead social website, sipping their Maxwell House coffee made in the Mr. Coffee machine, while in their bathrobe or pajama's, sitting in front of the computer instead.
See, most of these net-neighbors all cheer leaded on Everyblockhead about how great this neighborhood is - and all the new businesses at popping up, but they never support them other than that. Going on a idiot message board doesn't cut it, As proof in the gossip hounds about Pillar's on Everyblockhead.
These so-called good neighbors should stop buying Dunkin Donuts and Starbuck's big-chain coffee. They need to support local business if they want this neighborhood to survive. Won't be too long before Sol on Howard follows the same fate if these neighbor's don't get up there and buy a few cups of coffee - everyday.
Now the big question is, how long will it take for our ace DNAinfo reporter, Benji, to get the scoop?

For the record. This morning as I was at Pillar's, at least 3/4's of the tables were full of happy customers.
These must be the smart neighbors who don't hang out on Everyblock all day and night gossiping, speculating and talking about lost kitties and what kind of busniss they want in Rogers Park for months on end.
If any business is to survive, better yet thrive, it must offer a PRODUCT people want to PAY for. That is the free market capitalism model which the left HATES. God bless Capitalism. God bless FREEDOM.
Chip Bagg is touting the current overused word of our society.
PRODUCT. Yes everything is a product. I am a product of society in fact. If you haven't picked up on it, you soon will, PRODUCT this and PRODUCT that.
Its because we are in such a capitalistic society (which is okay, but it can go too far), we are all so business and PRODUCT savvy.
Hey Chippie, I say God bless freedom and capitalism as well, lets just not give some people an unequal advantage like alot of bullcrap non for profits that actually are for profit.
I am neither left nor right, both sides are right on some things. I just vote for the least bad guy at that time.
Chip Bagg what do you think about the government subsidized wine bar on Howard on the "Evanston" side of the street. Weird mix of lefty politics and capitalism to be sure.
Bros this is pretty high brow shit y'all are talking about. Social commentary by ace detective Gernhard. Business theory by Professor Bagg and Political Science by sidekick Rogers. What a scary circle jerk. Keep it up guys.
The reason businesses are failing is because most of the clowns that live in Rogers Park are broke and have no disposable income, that is until their rich North shore parents die and they inherit their money. Dont forget you liberals wealth distributers that your Democrat elected officials will make you pay a 16% inheritance tax on mommy and daddy's hard earned money. Doesnt that suck?
I shop local but the vegetarian options for restaurants are a little low for such a cool neighborhood. There's a few good ones but not many. I dated a guy who turned out to be a trust fund kid. He was real cool and an advocate, protester, and we even camped at Occupy together but he started this blog and got really intensely into it and pretty much ignored me. Oh well he's history now. Basically I'm just trying to say that I love Pillars coffee. LOL
I've been to Pillars a few times; they're not bad. When I first noticed they were not open later in the evening as usual, I saw a "winter hours" sign on the door. I assumed that's why they were closed at that hour. If Pillars is closing, that's too bad. That space will be standing empty again for who knows how long.
